Located in the Edo state in the southern part of Nigeria, the city of Benin is almost twenty-five miles north of the Benin River. Benin city was considered one of the most influential cities in West Africa until the British came into the country and took some 2000 bronze statues back to their home country. Leaving the city to be known as Nigeria's rubber industry and also the place to process palm nuts into oil, which you can find in abundance on any street corner.
The spectacular city is surrounded by the fantastical beauty of ancient moats, which magically take you back into the fairytales you used to read as a child. The moat was said to have taken almost 3 and a half years to make to keep enemies out of the city. Although there are a few things to consider when visiting this historical landmark.

For those who are a little adventurous and enjoy the company of other travellers, you can decide to stay at a Backpackers. Often having to share a room with others as well as costs, it is incredibly inexpensive. Often the best choice for those who may be just passing through or will be occupied for the majority of their day. It comes with the most basic amenities and is often formed as part of a bar or similar establishment. Not recommended for those who want privacy, this is best suited for those who wouldn’t mind meeting various other interesting travellers.
