Fresnaye is one of the most expensive luxurious suburbs in Cape Town. Overlooking Table Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, it is situated between Sea Point and the slopes of Lion’s Head mountain, with views all around.
The suburb has large mansions and villas, with some of the finest and most remarkable architectural masterpieces in South Africa. There are many historical houses and further up the mountain on the highest slopes, are magnificent modern houses, engineering marvels built into the mountain with spectacular views.
Fresnaye is not far from Cape Town city centre, but it is fairly quiet and secluded as it is away from the main roads through Sea Point, and tucked away under the mountainside. The suburb has excellent security.
What to Do
As Fresnaye is above Sea Point it has easy access to all the many amenities of this busy area. It is within walking distance of the Sea Point Promenade and Swimming Pool complex, where there is entertainment for children as well as an interesting very varied number of people walking, jogging, running and rollerblading. The landscape is beautiful with wonderful sunsets and views over the ocean.
There are upmarket shopping centres, like St John’s and the Point. There are shops of every description along the Sea Point Main road and the stunning V&A Waterfront is the closest large mall with sophisticated international designer shops.
In the other direction Fresnaye is minutes away from the famous Clifton and Camps Bay beaches. Sporting facilities of all descriptions are available at these beaches. The beaches are exquisite white sand with blue flag status, overlooking a scintillating sparkling blue sea.
Where to Eat
Sea Point has endless superb restaurants.
La Mouette, La Perla and the Mykonos Taverna are a few of the favourites.
Along the Camps Bay strip are wonderful places to eat overlooking the sea, like the Boulevard, the Grand, Caprese, Paranga and Umi. At the Waterfront there is Dash, Bahia and Bukhara.
Cape Town won 3rd place on the Conde Nast Best Food Lists, so there is no shortage of excellent restaurants around Fresnaye.
Transport is extremely easy. May Uber taxis are minutes away, coming either from Sea Point or Camps Bay. There is also the MyCiti bus which runs through Sea Point.
The Cape Town Airport is about 15 kms away. Myciti buses also run an airport shuttle service every 20 minutes to the city centre, a few kilometers away from Fresnaye.
