Harare has retained the strong cultural and historical heritage of eras gone by and a number of the older buildings have been preserved. The National Gallery houses valuable and interesting national collections and hosts many international exhibitions. The city has large open spaces like the National Botanic Garden with more than 900 species of indigenous trees and shrubs. At the African Unity Park, flower vendors have a breathtaking array of flowers on display at very reasonable prices. Harare is surrounded by game parks, preserves, and recreational lakes, and offer the visitor incredible opportunity to explore the natural beautiful environment. The extraordinary Mukuvisi Woodlands, on the edge of the Mukuvisi stream, feature a variety of bird and wild animal species such as giraffe, zebra, reed buck, wildebeest and impala amongst others. Manyame Recreational Park offers the keen fishermen outstanding fishing opportunity in the Manyame Dam. Picnic sites and camping facilities are available at this splendid park. Harare is a magnificent city surrounded by incredible natural splendour, and is a truly wonderful location for a vacation.
For a more down to earth experience there are guest houses. Less expensive than hotels, they offer a more homey environment, as well as more privacy. Converted from a private house it’s a much gentler environment and for those with furry friends, there are also pet friendly options. They are usually well situated with shops and places of interest nearby. Being so small it offers a much more personal and intimate attention to it’s upkeep, leaving you with a more polished and homely experience.
