The booming suburb of Hillcrest lies literally on the crest of a hill, to the west of Durban in the KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa. Historic homes with established lush gardens share space with modern gated communities, shopping centres, churches, equestrian estates and private and public schools. Green lungs are interspersed throughout the suburb.
Hillcrest is on route to the Valley of 1000 Hills, an evergreen region consisting of hills, valleys, forests and rivers. Hillcrest is also a short 20 minute drive to South Africa’s largest port city, Durban and the plentiful warm beaches along the Indian Ocean coastline.
For those wanting to escape the big city but are unwilling to compromise on convenience, Hillcrest should be your preferred destination.
Things to do
The Springside Nature Reserve in Hillcrest suburb has several trails through a section of endangered vegetation, home to over 150 bird species and a variety of mammals and reptiles.

Self Catering places can be found from rural to urban areas and can vary in what they offer. They allow plenty freedom and is a great inexpensive way to spend your holiday. They have been widely classified as a “Home away from home”. This is a good option for guests who don’t mind cooking their own food, and are looking for a more independent and flexible form of accommodation. For budget and large families, we would recommend self-catering for a more personalised experience.
