On the Atlantic Coast of the Gulf of Guinea in the southwestern Nigeria lies Lagos, the most populous and fastest growing city in the country. A major centre of the slave trade until 1851, Lagos is now Nigeria's most prosperous city with much of the nation's economic activity focused here. The metropolitan area, an estimated 3577 square kilometers, is a group of islands separated by creeks and lagoons. The three main islands in the Lagos Lagoon are Lagos Island, Ikoyi and Victoria.
Lagos Island is where you will find the central business district. It has the largest market in Lagos and is home to the Central Mosque and Oba's Palace.
