Rupert Museum Reviews
More info about Rupert Museum
A collection of art treasures that began in the 1940s by the late billionaire industrialist Dr Anton Rupert and his wife Huberte, culminated in the creation of the Rupert Museum in Stellenbosch in 2005 and has since become a focal point for the showcasing of important South African and international art. The building design, with portholes strategically placed to bring in natural light, has three exhibition halls, all free-flowing to best display the works. State of the art technology is employed to control climate and artificial lighting.
Art on display include that of Irma Stern and Anton van Wouw, while the huge station murals created by Pierneef in the 1920s and regarded as his finest work, are on loan to the museum by Transnet, a large parastatal. These murals were originally commissioned by the South African Railways (later to be named Transnet) for placement at the Johannesburg station. Watch a video at the museum to learn... Show more
