More info about Secunda
The best time to visit Secunda is after the first summer rains when the dry grass is transformed into a patchwork of green hues and the colourful cosmos flower springs to life. In fact, the area is known as Cosmos Country for this Mexican plant that thrives here. The cosmos plant was unintentionally brought into the country via horse feed from South America.
Borne out of a need for self-sufficiency in oil, Secunda was established in the late 1970s to house workers employed at the nearby oil refineries. The town is well laid out and has excellent shopping facilities and a large casino and entertainment complex. The Trichardspruit River runs through the town, forming a wide green lung through the suburbs.
Secunda lies in the scenic Mpumalanga Province, renowned for the many game farms and natural wonders located here.
