Trou d'Eau Douce, situated on the east coast of Mauritius, seems to have stepped out from a postcard. Quaint and unpretentious, the beautiful village which name loosely translates to “sweet water hole” is framed by a wide powder-white sand beach drenched by a sea of endless shades of blue.
The charming community offer accommodation ranging from darling little cottages, private self-catering villas, and splendid hotels, most with breathtaking ocean views, and although it has of late had an upspring in tourism, Trou d’Eau Douce has retained its fishermen’s village atmosphere and friendly Mauritian hospitality. There are appealing restaurants full of local character which serve fresh fish caught daily by the village’s local fishermen or alternatively make a reservation at one of the hotel restaurants which welcomes visitors.
