The four separate spacious, deluxe, air conditioned suites open directly onto a quiet large, private garden where we have over 250 rose bushes, and abundant birdlife. Addition to our Suites we have a Cottage with all the same luxuries and sleeps 4. All our suites have three different types of coffees, several different types of teas, and fresh milk is always available in the refrigerator. Our internationally acclaimed shortbread is renewed daily, as is the port and the muscadel. The mini bar is stocked with beer, soft drinks, water and fresh milk.

Electric blankets are available at all times. However, we only put these on the beds during the colder months. Here's just some of the reasons why The Hideaway is so very special...

We are one of the least expensive five-star establishments, and winners of international awards for the last 10 years.
We are situated in a beautiful quiet and secure area in a side street (large vehicles are prohibited from using this street) close to the historical centre of town and close to restaurants.
You'll be welcomed with a complimentary cup of tea or coffee or homemade lemonade and some of jackie's homemade cookies. we will explain the area to you if you would like us to, or leave you to find your own way. (either Stephen or Jackie are always on the premises).
We make restaurant bookings on your behalf and offer you complimentary lifts to and from the restaurant.
You will be invited to join the hosts for complimentary wine tasting, and drinking, served with snacks (homemade nibbles and other local treats) before you go out to dinner.

Our breakfasts are considered one of the best in South Africa by many of our guests and we get frequent requests to serve breakfast to outside visitors, but I am afraid they are reserved for our residents only!

Your car will be washed each morning during your stay.

There will be added value for each honeymoon couple. We will ensure that we spoil you in a special way, suited to your own individual tastes.

If you stay with us for more than two nights we will gladly do any washing that you have free of charge.

Property Facilities:
Spacious manicured garden with plunge pool. Rose garden. TV in all suites, Mountain Views. Within 5 minutes walk of restaurants and museums, gallery of work by local artists, fine examples of Bukkenburg pottery and ceramics, and some fine examples of original wrought iron work.

Area Information:
The people are friendly and there is no political strife with a virtual absence of serious crime.

Whale Watching
From De Hoop to Witsand you can watch whales from the shore (in the months of July, August, September, October and November).

Visit the coastal town of Hermanus (only one hour and forty five minutes away). Go Whale watching between September and November, or take a stroll on the sandy white beaches or enjoy a lovely fish lunch in their harbour.

Enjoy a round on the beautiful Swellendam Golf Course. As one guest recently commented, "the golf was spoilt a bit by the magnificent views".

De Hoop Nature reserve
Whale watching, over 290 species of birds and a variety of mammals, flor and fauna. On the way, cross the Breede River with the last hand operated ferry in Africa (Malgas).

Bontebok National Park
This 8000 hectare national park is home to the threatened Cape Mountain Zebra and Bontebok. It boasts 196 different birds and 490 different plant species. The plants and flowers are at their best in April. Enjoy a walk in the park, or as a guest of the Hideaway, you're offered a bespoke private tour around the Bontebok National Park with our previous owner Adin Greaves - who's written a book on the Park - an experience not to be missed.

Robertson Wine Route
A world class wine route with in excess of 100 wine farms. We can provide bespoke limousine tours for our guests at very competitive rates.

Cape Agulhas
Southern most point in Africa. Visit the shipwreck museum and climb the lighthouse.

Hot springs or take a ride on a tractor to the top of the mountains to see fabulous views of the Robertson valley and the Koo. Follow up with a Potjiekos lunch in the forest and go home with an armful of Proteas (in the season).

The Big 5.
Less than an hour from Swellendam is one of SA's newest and most exciting big game reserves. 54,000 hectares in size, it boasts 3 lodges and often deploys an expeditionary camp where guests can experience living in the bush for 2 nights. Ask Jackie and Stephen about booking this fabulous experience.

In Room Facilities:
Reversing air-conditioning, hand made furniture and antiques, complimentary mini bar, iPod/iPhone docking station. Free Wi-Fi. Complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate with homemade short bread. Complimentary Port & Muscadel
