The South Barrow Hotel was built in the early 1900's. It changed hands and names a few times and has been known as New South Barrow Hotel, The Lido Hotel, Aliwal Cove and in the year 1996 changed to Sea Fever Lodge.
We have function room which is available for hire and a braai area by the swimming pool which has large windows that look into the dive centre. Guests of Sea Fever Lodge are spoilt with the spectacular sunrise's and sunsets that can be viewed from the Lodge. Umkomaas is famous for the internationally renowned Aliwal Shoal, a fossilised sand dune of sponges and corals which is home to the Ragged Tooth Shark, Tiger Sharks, Whale Sharks and the wrecks of the "Nebo" and "Produce". Aliwal Shoal is known as one of the top 10 dive sites in the world and is also known for its extreem conditions. It is the only reef where you can find cold and warm water species of fish and is the breeding ground of the famous Ragged Tooth Shark. This takes place in the winter months of July to October. The sardine run also brings a lot of excitement to Umkomaas. This event only occours along the coast of Kwazulu Natal once a year and brings with it shoals of dolphins, whales and sharks. This normally takes place in June and July. Whale's usually make an apperance around September and October. Umkomaas golf course which is the home to world famous golfer Tim Clark, is a mear 5min walk from the lodge. Follow this link for more information on the Golf Course
