Area information and activities
Underberg lies in the foothills of the mighty uKhahlamba-Drakensberg, a World Heritage Site, and is a typical rural farm town where dusty roads, pristine mountain streams and enormous sandstone backdrops have sculpted the rustic haven that is Underberg. The town features a grocery store (Spar) and general dealers, a butchery, hardware supplies, art and craft stores, a few restaurants, quaint pubs, clothing stores and a petrol station.
Summer days are very hot and winter is cold with snow. Anytime between these two extremes is an ideal time to visit, unless you are intent on building snowmen and sitting in front of a roaring fire. The suggested length of stay is a weekend minimum, but preferably a week to fully explore this beautiful region.
Main things to do in the area are Sani Pass and the Highest pub in Africa (we can arrange day trips as a 4 x 4 is required), fly fishing, walking or hiking trails, picnics, mountain biking, golfing, horse riding, river tubing, birding and bushman paintings. Visit Pucketty Farm stall for homemade breads, pies, jams, pickles, etc. For those with children Duck and Spoors has an animal farm and tea garden, and moms can visit Vanilla Rose (an exquisite gift, décor, clothing and accessories shop). Underberg Cheesery is a must for cheese lovers. Or explore local history, visit the historic town of Himeville and the museum. For the not so energetic you can book a spa treatment, or just relax and read a book! We do provide a detailed information booklet of recommended places to visit and things to do, too many to mention here.

A wonderful weekend at a beautiful chalet. We will be back in the summer.
We had a very relaxing enjoyable stay. Sani Pass is as always "breathtakingly beautiful and awesome!" Thank you Clara for your friendliness and thank you Adam and Caryn for the use of this lovely gem.
Simply awesome time. Fabulous view, weather, accommodation. Perfect getaway for an ultimately relaxing vacation. Would love to be back soon. Sadly back to reality today. Thanks for a great holiday.
We had a most enjoyable 3 days at Bergview. The children (and adults) had a ball in the well equipped playground and the less active loved the gorgeous berg views while relaxing on the deck and verandah. The house was comfortable and met all our requirements and Clara was most helpful and friendly. Thank you for a memorable visit to Bergview.
Once again - amazing stay! 3 years of amazing holidays at Bergview - and we look forward to many more! Thank you!
We had a wonderful week! This is our third time to holiday here and we really appreciate the lovely cabin. Our young boys love the jungle gym and trampoline. Thanks for a great holiday spot!

Good base for requisitions and so close to mountains with good hiking trails.
Scenery.
The beautiful mountain ranges, open spaces and Sani make it a memorable destination!
Everything in Underberg.
Sani Pass and the beautiful hikes in the area. Close to the Umzimkulu River for rafting and tubing. Horse riding and golf. So much to do.
Small, Quiet, not a lot of people, and the most breath taking scenery in the country.
The Golf Club supplies fantastic meals for really good prices.
A favourite place, well placed for travel from Durban.
Beautiful area. Having snow on the mountains added to the charm immensely but there are certainly so many places to visit and see. Our main purpose of our visit was to do the CHOC Walk up Sani Pass so didnt allow for too much touring time but definitely saw places we would go and visit on a return trip to the Underberg.
Was on a business trip, but have been there many times. Close to Sani Pass and the Drakensberg. Fabulous nature in summer months.
Our favourite part about Underberg was visiting Sani Pass.
