"The imposing peaks of the Kwazulu-Natal midlands gleam like the upright blades of assegais over a blanket of cloud in the light of the morning sun. In Zulu they are called "uKhahlamba", meaning barrier of spears and are the highest mountains of the great escarpment in Southern Africa, rising to over 3000 metres in places.
