Attractions:

Visit the protected African Penguin Colony at Boulders BeachThe African Penguin is the only penguin to inhabit the African continent and its inshore islands. As a result of their rare status and the need for their protection, the area has now been taken over by Cape Peninsula National Park, the birds have been restrained from wandering inland by a fence. Board walks and an information room have all been established.

Swim and lie in the sun on one of our many beaches. The coastline south of the harbour is home to many small, secluded beaches with calm water and safe bathing. The sea temperature here in summer is much warmer than the temperature on the other side of the Cape Peninsula, and there are many spots that offer shelter from the prevailing wind.

Walk in the Cape of Good Hope Nature ReserveUmnenge House backs onto the edge of this nature reserve, which allows for a choice of walks and hikes to suit every fitness level. From a short stroll to the nearby waterfall to a full-day hike over the mountain, there are so many beautiful areas to explore

The Scratch Patch at Mineral World: Always a children's favourite, the scratch patch can keep them busy for hours while they search for semi-precious stones.

Cape Point: Although it is not actually the most Southern tip of Africa, and the Indian and Altantic oceans do not always meet there, nearby Cape Point is one of the most spectacularly beautiful peninsulas in world. Rugged cliffs plunge into the churning sea below, while local fauna spring and scurry through the endemic fynbos vegetation.

History and heritage: Visit the Simon's Town Museum, the SA Naval Museum and the Heritage Museum for some insight into the history of the town and the people and events that have shaped it over time.

Take a train ride: Hop onto the train at Simon's Town station and take a trip right alongside the coast through the seaside villages of Fish Hoek, Clovelly, Kalk Bay, St James and Muizenberg, where you can have some surfing lessons before heading back.

Have a quick 9 holes: Simon's Town has its own 9-hole golf course, which be your warm-up for a full 18 holes at the nearby Clovelly and Westlake golf courses.

Our stay at Umnenge House was excellent. The location of the house and setup is outstanding. Everything you need is there, even a washing machine. My family really enjoyed the stay, the privacy and the pool. We even got to see some monkeys which was an amazing experience. Mary and the owners were extremely helpful and were always there to assist. Simon's Town is really the gem of Cape Town and we will definitely be go back to Umnenge House.

It really is a must see town, there is a scratch patch with the most beautiful stones. Boulders beach is a fantastic spot to relax and enjoy the penguins and plenty of shops to browse, plus a very nice yacht club with plenty of spots to choose from to grab something to eat.
