Soweto is a vibrant township in Johannesburg that is quickly becoming one of the most popular tourist attractions in South Africa. Infused with the turbulent history of Apartheid and buzzing with Jozi friendliness, Soweto is contrast of culture. Shacks juxtapose mansions; littered streets offset pretty green parks; and a history of poverty reveals new trends in politics, fashion, music, dance, and language. Soweto is the ultimate township experience.

It was a memorable evening. The food, hospitality and host was out of this word. Can't wait to visit it again.

We stopped here for lunch, though we didn't stay in the B&B. It's a culinary school, where very friendly students prepare and serve the meal. There were a lot of fresh vegetables--beets, pumpkin and spinach and barbecued chicken, beef and rice. They also served steamed bread. The food is good and the experience is quite interesting.

Our group of 20+ stopped here for lunch during our visit to Soweto. It's a small house located in a quiet residential area. Didn't know it was a B&B at first but after lunch the host took us upstairs for a tour and showed us the guest rooms. In addition to the several lavishly decorated rooms, the second floor also consisted of a comfortable lounge and an airy enclosed porch area with expansive views of the town. Our lunch was served buffet style and the food - well spiced and aromatic - was abundant and delicious. Service was good with courteous and friendly staff. Not sure how convenient the location is relative to everything else as we didn't have a chance to walk around the neighborhood but the accommodation and ambiance seem nice if looking for a local place to stay in Soweto.

Was great to be able to explore a place with such historic relevance for South Africa. The Mandela house, the Hector Pieterson museum, etc were all fascinating and the variety of crafts and restaurants were great. Particularly enjoyed the bike tour done on the first day which gave us both a visual and historic background to the area.
