Situated on a hill with magnificent views of the ocean and mountains, you will find an old Manor house dating back to the early 1900's. Steeped in history, the rooms speak to old and young, as centuries of love and laughter have built walls that stand strong more than a 100 years later.

An old oak tree sways in the wind, creaking as it begs for company and promises shade to those who visit it. Trees provide a picnic spot whilst temporary residents overlook the bay and Robberg Nature Reserve.

The property was also home to a general dealer and then post office. This corrugated structure with solid old wood shutters and sash windows, reminds one of the smell of Boxer tobacco, Wilson toffees and bottles of sweets on the counter. Old men buying 'moer' coffee and telling stories, children playing hide and seek.

The accommodation a mix of old and new- embracing the memories of family, Sunday lunches and farm breakfasts.

So whether you are looking for a room with a view, or a self-catering home to accommodate a family or two - Weldon House is waiting to write a part of your story.

Plettenberg Bay's beaches, nature reserves, water activities; Bloukrans bungy jumping, Birds of Eden or the Keurbooms - we are waiting for you!

Accommodation available:

The Manor house consists of 5 large bedrooms (including 2 family rooms) each with its own en-suite accommodating between 2 and 5 people. There is a breakfast area and reading nook/sitting area for our temporary residents.

The 'General Dealer' consists of 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms with a large sitting area. This home is ideal for a family or two as it can easily accommodate 8 - 12 people.
Property Facilities:
Beautiful yellowwood floors and sash windows welcome visitors who soon learn that the house is for living!

Area Information:
The town of Plettenberg Bay lies almost on the border of the Western and Eastern Cape. Built on the hillside, most of the town is on a steep slope leading down to the sea, which means that regardless of where you find yourself accommodated, you will be treated to spectacular views of the bay and surrounding hills and mountains.

Plettenberg Bay has a relatively long history for a South African town, having been regularly visited by Portuguese explorers during the 15th and 16th centuries. Signs of their visits abound, and history enthusiasts can view artifacts such as the remains of the Gonzales Wreck in the town.Early European settlers to the area arrived in the late 1700's, and have also left behind many fascinating historical relics, for example the Old Rectory, built by the Dutch East India Trading company in 1776, and Forest Hall, a privately owned stately home, built in 1864 by William Henry Newdgate.

In modern times, Plettenberg Bay has gained somewhat of a reputation as a pleasure seeker hotspot, and has many leisure activities on offer. From polo at Kurland, to yachting at the Keurbooms River mouth and marina, to less high brow activities like swimming and water sports in the warm, gentle waters. In fact, when you enter the town proper, a monument to one of the symbols of this lush, almost tropical bay greets you: a bronze statue of the dolphins that play in the warm waters just off the coast.

For holiday-makers, accommodation in Plettenberg Bay is plentiful. From upmarket hotels to budget B&B's, accommodation is offered in varying price ranges from budget to over the top luxury. You are sure to find a great place to stay.

With miles of pristine beaches to choose from, it's no wonder that lazing on the beach is so popular with visitors, but, for those that manage to pry themselves away, there are charter boat cruises, hiking, canoeing and abseiling to choose from, to name but a few. Another attraction well worth a visit is the Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary; the world's only multi-species, free roaming primate sanctuary, located a few minutes outside of town.

If you're looking for a place to stay in the Plettenberg Bay area, definitely check this place out! It's a quaint 120 year-old house with a few spacious and interestingly furnished and decorated guest rooms, on a lovely property with nice vegetation and a bunch of chickens running around, and a breathtaking view of Plettenberg Bay.

When we arrived in the evening, our party of 7 was greeted by Martin, who lives and works on the property. He was very friendly and tremendously helpful -- he even took all the laundry which we hadn't had a chance to wash yet since arriving in South Africa (there was a lot of it!), and we got it all back folded the next morning! He showed us our 3 rooms and gave us the free wifi password, and we settled in for the evening.

The next morning at breakfast, we met our hosts, Harry and Deirdre (I hope I spelled that right...). Both were extremely friendly and helped us out with useful sightseeing information for the area. Breakfast was great and varied -- from a very tasty muesli/yogurt-style health cup, to eggs, sausage and quiche, and some delicious home-made bread made by Deirdre. Generally the breakfasts we've had in South Africa have been quite good, but I think this one was probably the best.

In summary, I highly recommend this establishment, the nicest accommodation we've had so far in South Africa.
