Children are welcome - no baby sitters are available but we can provide camping cots and box mattresses.

Area Information:
Described as an appealing subtropical garden town, Tzaneen is in fact the second largest town in the Mopani district in Limpopo that lies at the foot of the Wolkberg Mountains in the northern reaches of the Drakensberg range. These form an impressive backdrop to the town that is renowned for its abundant growth of just about everything subtropical - avocados, nuts, citrus fruits, mangoes, bananas and litchis, coffee, tea and cotton.

Tzaneen also serves as a good spot from which to explore the rest of the region, with its position just below the Magoebaskloof. The special thing about Tzaneen is the constant change in scenery - lush vegetation, plantations, mountains and one of the biggest baobab trees in the world (at the Sunland Nursery between Duiwelskloof and Ga-Kgapane) mean that there is never a dull moment.

The quaint little Tzaneen Museum is definitely worth a visit, on a day when you're not out exploring the various nature reserves or the Tzaneen Dam (also a nature reserve), for its collection of ethnological artefacts like pottery, beadwork, weapons, the largest collection of pole carvings in the country. There is also a collection of royal drums from the Rain Queen, Modjadji - hereditary ruler of the Balobedu people of the area whose succession is matrilineal (the Queen's eldest daughter is heir and males are not entitled to the throne) - whose residence is close to the Modjadji Nature Reserve.

Just 17 kilometres from Tzaneen is the beautiful Duiwelskloof (devil's gorge), renamed Modjadjiskloof in 2004 in the Rain Queen's honour.

In Room Facilities:
Standard Classic Rooms:
TV with satellite viewing, Wi-Fi internet access, tea and coffee making facility, private entrance to the garden, laundry facility, hairdryer, clock radio, free standing or ceiling fan, safe facility either in room or at reception, valet service to room on request, guest toiletries and towels.

Classic Rooms:
These larger rooms have the same facilities as the Standard Classic Rooms, including a small sitting area, fireplace and private verandah leading onto the garden.

Deluxe Classic Rooms:
These are our most spacious rooms and they have the same facilities as both the Standard Classic Rooms as well as the Classic Rooms, including a mini-bar.

Attractions:
Things to do & see at Sherwood's & surrounds: There are several short scenic walks from the country house, including a walk to King's Walden garden, where you can spend a good few hours strolling and admiring the spectacular views through the formal garden which forms part of the 'botanical route' in the area. A 'bird walk' through cultured and indigenous forest around the dam at Sherwood's. Birding enthusiasts will hopefully be able to see a large variety of birds including some rare species. Small game in the area include bushpig, bushbuck, porcupine, meerkat, civet, spotted genet, vervet
monkeys, a rare sighting of two Samango Monkeys and perhaps you may hear the bark of Charma Baboons close by. The Rooikat Hiking Trail is 1.5 km from Sherwood's (Sherwood's to New Agatha Forestry Station ). This 4 hour hike takes in both cultivated and indigenous forests in a mountain setting and ends on the bottom of the valley where you find a beautiful stretch of 'Bob's River' with refreshing crystal clear water, large rock pools and waterfalls - the ideal backdrop for a packed picnic lunch (provided by Sherwood's on request) and a lazy sunny afternoon spent swimming in pristine privacy. If you are feeling very energetic, why not mountain bike through the forestry - bring along your own mountain bikes. For something adventurous, try the canopy tours adventure sports situated in the Magoebaskloof and Georgesvalley mountain. Enjoy walking among our magnificent avocado trees on our avocado farm. I fell in love! It is an amazing place. As a matter of fact I did not want to leave! The De luxe room is so spacious and the bathroom layout so unique. Service is top class. The 3 course dinner was made with love. I can highly recommend them.

Wonderful setting in the Agatha Mountains, peaceful, quiet. The deluxe room was very big and very English, also the bathroom. Very special. James, the good soul of the house, was wonderful, so friendly and he helped with everything. He is a very good host. The food was very good. We did not meet the owner, which was a pity because we had a nice email contact.

Fantastic venues, excellent views and friendly service. I have been to Tzaneen before and not explored this part of town, i was pleasantly surprised and would recommend it to someone looking for a relaxed garden setting.
