Accommodation

Marichel 4 comfortably sleeps eight people and is wheelchair friendly. Children and babies are welcome. A camp cot and high chair are provided. All percale linen is provided, including bath and beach towels. The apartment is serviced daily with the exception of Sundays and Public holidays. Servicing can be arranged for these days.

The granite top kitchen boasts pristine fully equipped cupboards with oven, hob, microwave, nespresso machine, dishwasher, water filter,fridge, freezer, washing machine, and tumble dryer. A substantial variety of small appliances ensure that you feel at home. The kitchen is open plan, leading through to the dining area, and then through a comfortable furnished lounge onto a huge veranda with stunning sea-views. A relaxing way to soak up the warm sunshine of the “Dolphin Coast” and feel the sand under your feet. High Rock, which is situated north of the bay, is where King Shaka would sit to plan his military tactics. Also a popular rock fishing spot on this coastline.
The “King Shaka” airport is situated ± 20 km away. Durban, the closest city, is ± 60km away.

Thompsons Bay Beach (Ballito)
The beach sits in a cove, sheltering it nicely from the wind, making it a very pleasant place to lay down your towel and soak up the rays without fear of being sandblasted. From the beach you can see Chaka's Rock which is the ultimate fishing spot for the more experienced anglers in the area.
Thompsons Bay Beach is known for safe swimming, with lifeguards on duty, shark nets in place and off course, “Charlie’s Pool which provided a bit more security for young swimmers, the elderly and those wishing to maintain their fitness levels. If using the Tidal Pool for training purposes, goggles are recommended.
The “Hole in the Wall” from the pool, takes you through to another smaller beach that may be enjoyed by all. A perfect hiking adventure, is to walk through to Ballito via the beach, or even just to the 3rd beach that boasts its own man made rock pool. Ensure that you walk 3 hours before and after low tide. Children love to take fishing nets and catch small fish in the many rock pools found on this pristine coastline.
Favourite spots to pick mussels are on the left of” Charlie’s Pool” and on the rocks found through the “Hole in the Wall”. If the seas are calm, you may be fortunate enough to pick for 5 days around Spring Tide. You will often find the locals picking mussels at either of these spots and they are very willing to share their knowledge of the rocks and advise on the easiest picking methods. They will even share their recipe ideas with you. A Mussel Licence, rock shoes, rock bag, picking utensils, knife to clean the mussels and a bucket to fill with fresh seawater are required.
To the North of Thompsons Bay is Chaka's Rock, better known by the local fishermen as “High Rock”. Folklore has it, that King Chaka used to sit on the rocks, gazing out to sea, contemplating his military tactics. It has also been said that he used to throw his wives over here if they did not produce a son.
Dolphin & Whale Viewing
There are a number of tour operators that specialize in this unique experience. The North Coast in particular is the known playground of the bottle-nose dolphin and it is a wonderful opportunity to see and experience these gentle creatures up close in the wilds. Nature's innocents. This is one boat ride that you really shouldn't miss.

To protect these wonderful creatures, swimming with the dolphins is unfortunately not allowed in South Africa.
