The estate was proclaimed a private nature reserve in 1995. It is the largest private nature reserve along the entire South African coastline (2798 km). It extends over 2455 hectares (6066 acres) and stretches 5 km along the Indian Ocean. The reserve is fully fenced along its 15 km perimeter and only accessible via two gated entrances.
In Room Facilities:* The Cottages:
The Cottages are all less than 100m from the shore break, making every morning a unique experience. There are a total of 6 deluxe Cottages all fully equipped with a kitchen, built-in braai and spacious rooms. Five of the cottages have double rooms that sleeps 4 people and one unit sleeps 2. All rooms have their own bathroom and all linen and towels are provided. Wifi and Open View are provided in each cottage.
*The Houses:
The 9 Fishermans’ houses are all freestanding units spread out along the coast. They provide spectacular views of the shoreline and the lighthouse. 8 Units sleep 4 people and 1 of the units sleeps 6. These houses are more rustic than the Cottages, yet each unit has its own character. All units have a fully equipped kitchenette, a cozy fireplace inside and a spacious patio with built-in braai facing the sea. All linen and towels are provided. Wifi are provided in each room and No TV available in this units.
* The Villa Suites:
There are 15 Villa Suites with sleeper couch. These units are equipped with kitchenette, King or Twin beds, a sleeper couch and a patio. Each unit has its own bathroom with shower and bath. Portable braai’s can be arranged. Wifi and Open View channels provided in each room.
Additional to the Villa Suites with sleeper couches we have 5 Villa houses consisting of four self-catering units in each Villa. These houses are ideal for groups as they sleep between 8 and 14 guests. Each unit has its own kitchen, bathroom, patio and build in braai. The layout of all units are different although the look and feel are the same. Units equipped with WiFi and Open View channels.
Area Information:Gourikwa Reserve Once Rein’s Private Nature Reserve plays a pivotal role in the conservation of the Cape Floral Kingdom; one of the six floral kingdoms of the world. The reserve offers different eco systems consisting of coastal, wetland, fynbos and grassland areas, which are rich in different types of fauna and flora. Botanists have identified plant species on the reserve that are unique to the area and some that can be found nowhere else in the world.
Well preserved ancient fish traps and shell middens are situated along the reserve’s coastline and pay testament to our great heritage. The fish traps date back to the Later Stone Age people

A walk up Buffelskop (212 m – the highest point on the reserve) offers a magnificent view of the entire coastline, the light house and a vast undulating inland landscape. With a brand new wooden deck at this spot to make a spectacular sunset even better.

We had a lovely weekend getaway ,the cottage by the sea was just a perfect choice we made ,very clean with crisp fresh bedding the staff was very friendly & helpful even rescue the crab out of the swimming pool so my grandson cud have a swim , after a whole day waiting for the zebras we finally got to see them up close in the road & many thanx for the guy that took time out to get the golf balls out of the hole so thy cud play golf we had a great time there many thanx again for each & everyone that went out of there way assisting ,we definitely had a memorable weekend looking forward visiting in the future

We really enjoyed our stay in Gourikwa (cottage) Peaceful and quiet. Beautiful place. I spotted spiders and spider webs on top of curtains in living area, but aside from that the cottage was clean and tidy. Thank you
Absolutely beautiful and tranquil... Surroundings ... Beautiful fresh modern apartment with great furnishings. Wifi works great. Great for family and couples. Loved the scenic drive... My little hatchback felt like a 4x4 😀
Our stay in the cottages was incredible. Everything we needed was supplied. I hope I can go back to Gourikwa soon.
