Moroc-Karoo is situated in the breathtaking Matjiesrivier Valley at the foot of the majestic Swartberg Mountains, the second largest mountain range in South Africa, 45 kilometres from Oudtshoorn and just around the bend from the Cango Caves, historic Swartberg pass and Gamkaskloof (Die Hel). It offers comfortable and quality accommodation with unique down-to-earth charm for your next country breakaway with your family and friends, or alone with your significant other. Self-catering and B+B options available. Breakfast and dinner available on request. This is the arty, earthy and romantic getaway you've been dreaming about.

In Room Facilities:

Our well appointed main house, built in 1942 is beautifully decorated in a fusion of Karoo, Moroccan and French styles and can accommodate up to 6 guests in 3 en-suite rooms, one open plan with Victorian slipper bath and two with showers. Each room has its own entrance and are furnished with either comfortable king-size bed or 2 single beds, decked with fresh, clean, high quality cotton linen, and comes equipped with complimentary coffee and tea amenities; hairdryer; fan; heater
(during colder winter months); insect repellant, complimentary soap and hand cream. Room only or B + B option available.

The self-catering duplex freestanding Karoo-Provencale cottage (sleeps 4) offers breathtaking views of the mountains and valley. Upstairs is a bedroom with queen size bed, desk, small patio from which to admire the view or do some star gazing and bathroom with corner bath. Downstairs a cozy seating/ dining area, with an additional double bed and a kitchenette, complete the picture.

Area Information:

Moroc-Karoo is the ideal base from which to explore the Klein Karoo, as the historic Swartberg pass, Gamkaskloof (Die Hel), the Cango Caves, Prince Albert, the unique Red Stone Hills, and various picturesque circle routes are right on our doorstep. Oudtshoorn is the largest town in the Little Karoo, situated along the renowned Cape Route 62 in the Western Cape. It boasts the largest ostrich population in the world, featured at a number of excellent ostrich show farms around the town.

Property Facilities:

In summertime you can lounge around the plunge pool in the courtyard, do some star-gazing o bird watching, watch the ostriches dance from the shaded stoep or take a leisurely walk to the waterfall or amongst farmland where cattle graze lazily. When the Karoo puts on her snowy winter garb, cozy up to the fireplace in our petite gallery while sipping on a glass of world renowned port. A hearty full English breakfast is available on request (includes jogurt, muesli, fresh milk, bread and preserves, cheese, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, and eggs, as well as coffee and tea). Picnic baskets and dinner is also available with prior arrangement. An in house art gallery will appeal to those with artistic souls. Secure off-street parking is provided on the premises. Braai facilities and wood available for a unique braai experience under the Klein Karoo star studded skies.

Attractions:

Other activities to be enjoyed in Oudtshoorn include tours of the Cango Caves, hot air balloon rides, golfing at Oudtshoorn Golf Course, and visiting the CP Nel Museum, Gottland House, and the oldest Dutch Reformed Church (built in 1837). Don’t forget to stop by Wilgewandel, a family friendly restaurant situated 25km outside of Oudtshoorn. Here, you can enjoy activities like camel rides, 100m foefie slide, putt-putt, donkey cart rides, pedal cars, and an obstacle course. The Cango Wildlife ranch and elephant interaction at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge are some of the other exiting things to experience in this beautiful area.
