A Bit of Background

Mike and Harriet Joao bought the farm in 1997 and for the next 13 years it was inhabited by their four spunky daughters. It was when the last of this crazy bunch left home that they heard the silence and realised the old house needed to be filled with laughter again.
Mike, being a builder by trade, quickly made the changes needed, Harriet did the decor and Chelaya Country Lodge was born.
The family feel is prevalent throughout the house with photographs, antique furniture handed down through the ages, and souvenirs collected on happy holidays across the world. Oregon floors, yellow wood beams, and the most unusual wall decorations set the tone for a relaxed but stylish holiday venue.
In keeping with the 'family' feel, each bedroom is named after one of the four daughters.
All the bedrooms have queen sized beds and each bathroom is unique.

Property Facilities:
Inside the house the lounge area, with stunning Oregon floors, has a huge fireplace for the cold winter evenings, a library with writing desk; a well stocked pub with corner fireplace and TV nook, and a spacious farm style kitchen.
The bar is staffed during the day but becomes an honesty bar in the later hours. Light meals, picnics and poolside snacks are available throughout the day. A well trained and friendly group of staff are there to make up and turn down the rooms, do the washing up, clean the house, light the fires and to make sure you have everything you require. In the garden are discreet staff to maintain the pool and ensure umbrellas, towels and loungers are provided when the sun is shining.
Chelaya offers first class English and Continental breakfasts as well as the opportunity to choose between a light lunch prepared for you or doing your own thing in the spacious farm kitchen.
At night you may choose to self-cater - perhaps with a traditional braai (barbecue) or by whistling up your own family favourite. You can, of course, dine at one of the many excellent restaurants in the area.
An added bonus for families with children are the friendly farm animals - each with their own special personality - which they can interact with.

In Room Facilities:
* Emma's Room
This light and spacious room decorated in burgundy and cream is a perfect expression of Emma's delightful personality. The eldest of the four Emma has recently qualified as an Occupational Therapist from the University of Cape Town. After completing her community service year in Kwa Zulu Natal in 2011 she hopes to merge her love of animals, and in particular horses, with her Occupational Therapy in setting up a practice where she will be able to treat people with both physical and mental disabilities using animals to enhance the therapy.
Emma's room is the most spacious of all the rooms and has an additional day bed. The generous en-suite bathroom looks out on an enclosed private garden and boasts a large bath big enough for two, and shower. Double doors lead out onto a private veranda under an oak tree.
* Pippa's Room
Pippa is a fine example of triumph over adversity. After suffering from severe Epilepsy as a small child she has defied the predictions of the professionals and lives an independent, thriving life in Kenya. As an assistant pre-primary school teacher she is in charge of 12 tiny tots at the Brookhouse International School in Nairobi and delights in passing on her courage and love of life. She is a true inspiration and her room reflects everything of life, vigor and passion in the red, orange and green colouring.
Pippa's room is the only one leading onto the walled courtyard with it's Olympic sized lily pond. The bathroom has a free standing slipper bath, shower and view of a walled garden.
* Cindy's Room
Cindy is the youngest and actually still lives with her Mum in Somerset West. A regular visitor to the farm her room is vibrantly decorated in aqua, blue and green reflecting her youth and 'joie de vivre'. Cindy attends Pare Vallei High School and loves sport (Junior provincial gymnastics) and the outdoor life. That said she is also true to her teenage spirit and loves shopping, chilling, night life and dodging the attention of her many adoring admirers. She is a special sister with her loyal, caring personality and exceptionally loving and gentle nature.
Her room has twin beds and the bathroom has a corner bath and hand shower. Cindy?s veranda overlooks the leafy garden and ancient swing swaying with happy memories.
Sammy's Room
Sammy is the most recent to leave home and is currently doing a BSc in Conservation and Ecology at the University of Stellenbosch. Always an animal lover she has hand raised many goslings, ducklings and chickens. Sam is the reason that most of our chickens have a desperate urge to lay their eggs in peculiar places such as on the sofa or in a wastepaper basket!
Sammy supplements her student income by working at a cocktail bar in Stellenbosch, helping out with the music at parties and even serving behind the bar at Chelaya when she can fit us in!
This room is a family unit and sleeps four in two inter-leading rooms. The warm autumn colours reflect the nature lover in Sam. The main bedroom enjoys a view of the Plane Trees and the free standing Victorian bath within the room adds a bit of decadence. The children?s room has two single beds with an en-suite shower. Double doors lead to a shaded veranda overlooking the beautiful garden and an infinity pool.
