'Rafiki' means friend and we want to welcome you in our home as friends.
Surrounded by trees, our house and garden are a haven of peace, only to be disturbed by animals and birds. Our self catering safari house is situated in the nature conservancy Marloth Park that borders the famous Kruger National Park. We are close to the river (2mins walk) where big game such as elephant, lion, rhino, hippo and buffalo can be spotted. Kruger entrance is 12 mins away.
We have fast uncapped Wifi, ideal for those who want to work online as we ourselves do. Our housekeeper does not leave Marloth Park for as long as the corona crisis is not under control, to avoid infection from outside. Safety of guests and staff comes first.
Rafiki's Resthouse offers four bedrooms and three bathrooms, divided over two floors. Linen is provided. Each floor has a viewing deck and a lounge.
All bedrooms have ceiling fans, AC and mosquito nets. The two lounges, two outside viewing terraces, the large private garden, splash pool and swimming pool, the two braai areas offer ample space for privacy, even within a group. The kitchen is fully equipped. Betty can cook if required.
One of our other trump cards is our luxury safari tent on the upper balcony. True nature lovers like to sleep where they are close to the sounds and sightings of a night in the bush.
In the video lounge upstairs, films available are all about safari and nature and bird lovers will find quite a few documentaries about birds, as well as books.
There is a double garage and a carport.
Our price is for up to 4 persons. Extra charge for additional guests (R150) may apply. These surcharges are to be paid directly to the owner, as well as the daily cleaning fee of R180- 200. We also ask a refundable breakage deposit of R1500, if more than 4 guests.
Rafiki's Resthouse has easy access to the restaurants and the two shopping centres within the park and is from Marloth Park as close as possible to Crocodile Gate at Kruger (12 mins drive).
Zebra, bushbuck, kudu, wildebeest, impala, warthog, baboons, vervet monkeys, as well as other small game and birds are all regular visitors at the house, especially once they realise that the occupants of the house will give fresh water every day and healthy food (pellets can be bought at the shop). A few days' stay at least is therefore very advisable as the longer you stay, the more regular the animals will come.
At night while sitting on the veranda or having a braai at the boma, you will hear the lion roar and the hippo laugh while in the morning one hears the elephant trumpeting. It is a delight to try to identify all sounds.

Reviews
We just got back from a 7 night stay at Rafiki's Resthouse. This is an incredible and affordable place to stay for anyone wanting to explore the Kruger National Park. The house has a homely "home away from home" feel set in a lovely location full of beautiful trees. For those hot days, there is a lovely deep pool to cool off in. The best part is feeling that you are one with nature: general game come through the garden throughout the day, there are amazing birds and at night, and bush babies. We enjoyed feeding the three magnificent male kudus that came for a visit one afternoon. Rafiki's Resthouse is located in Marloth Park, close to the entry gate to Marloth Park, which means that you are a mere 12 minute drive away from Kruger National Park's Crocodile Bridge entry gate. For the days where you don't want to enter Kruger, you can still see an abundance of wildlife in the garden and also in Marloth Park and at the fence/river which borders the Kruger (we saw lions and elephants at the fence). Gerda was an excellent and communicative host who was constantly in contact to ensure that we had the best stay. We are already planning our next trip to Rafiki's Resthouse.
Not enough words - how can one write about something that can only be felt? Why book an expensive safari? This property (and we stayed at others) is better - and the best in Marloth Park. Its large trees and rustic gardens make it an oasis. The house is large, comfy, and has excellent WiFi. The housekeeper, Betty, will greet you with a huge smile and she maintains home in immaculate condition. We stayed a week - and could have stayed a month. The animals are simply amazing and they must love this place too - they showed up daily. Thank you Gerda - and Betty!
Possibly my most favorite place I've ever stayed! I already want to go back! Got wildlife experiences regular visitors to Kruger would never get. Bushbaby, genet, and much up close. The housekeeper Betty kept everything clean and cooked us a special meal on the fire. Pool felt great in the warm afternoons.
Thank you Gerda for the great stay at your awesome place. Location perfect. Close to the Kruger National Park. Really just a fence separating Marloth Park from KNP so really great for viewing the wild at the river. Thank you for the regular updates each day. So peaceful as the kudu, warthogs, bushbaby and bush buck visited often at the house. Giraffe and Zebra grazing just down the road. Monkeys jumping trees. Our experience was absolutely unforgettable. Betty our host was just amazing. Always making sure that all was good, thank you Betty. Loved your smile and your infectious laugh. Rafiki Resthouse is highly recommended, has all the amenities. Perfect place, perfect location.
Our stay at Rafiki's was simply magical! The indoor space is amazingly clean, thanks to our housekeeper, Betty, who cleans the house 100% every morning. The bedrooms were equipped with air-conditioners with heaters so they kept us warm during the chilly winter nights and early mornings. The kitchen is fully equipped to cook simple breakfasts and quick meals. The outdoor space is just amazing. The veranda was the most amazing place in my personal opinion. Amazing mornings and evenings spent just on the veranda with bush bucks, bush babies, wildebeest, kudus, warthog and many more. But most amazingly, our host, Gerda, is the best host we ever had. The most helpful, honest and welcoming host ever. There is no other place we would stay if we would like to stay in Marloth Park or visit the Lower Sabie area in Kruger. Words are not enough to describe the experience. One has to experience a stay at Rafiki's himself. The best!
