La Paix Guest House is situated in a quiet neighbourhood in Beaufort West, 600 meters from the main road (N1), with the Nieuveld mountain range north of the Heart of the Central Karoo, birthplace of the heart transplant pioneer, Dr Christiaan Barnard.
La Paix offers a luxurious atmosphere with chique farmstyle interior decoration in a peaceful, tree-filled garden which offers the tired traveller an opportunity to switch off and sit back, while observing the variety of bird species present. Green lawns provide space for children to play.

Beaufort West is a town in the Western Cape province in South Africa. It is the largest town in the arid Great Karoo region, and is known as the "Capital of the Karoo".
Beaufort West is ideally situated as a central base from which to explore the Great Karoo and the historic Swartberg Pass. It is also the gateway to holiday resorts in the Western, Eastern and Southern Cape/Garden Route.

Beaufort West is a typical country town with a rich romantic history. The little town lies in what became the world's richest collecting grounds for fossils. Today visitors can find out more about them by following the fossils trail at the Karoo National Park outside the town.
The Karoo people are warmhearted friendly and open people. They are extremely proud of the fact that the world famous heart surgeon, Prof Christiaan Barnard, is a local boy. This pioneer of the first heart transplant in the world, is a born Karoo boy. At the pastorie visitors can see his humble boyhood home visit the garden in which his ashes are buried.
