This beautiful, serene and unspoiled valley provides the ideal destination for all seasons. Tulbagh provides an excellent starting point from which to explore the Cape Winelands and surrounding areas, be that on foot, on a cycle, on horseback or by car.
Tulbagh is fast becoming the wedding destination of choice in the Western Cape and undoubtedly this is due to its immense beauty. Essere Lodge is immersed in the centre of Tulbagh’s rural area and is surrounded by woodlands, mountains and rivers. It is also incredibly private.

Essere is an Italian word meaning "to be". And that's what Essere is all about. Whatever that means for you we offer the space to just be. Whether its an afternoon spent under the trees with a book and a glass of wine, a picnic with your significant other or maybe a dip in the pool. Take time for you by doing absolutely nothing, or visit the local vineyards, Waterval Nature Reserve, the Ceres Zip Line, or take a tractor ride up to the peak of the Mountains to watch the sun set.
Whatever you choose, when staying at Essere Lodge you will enjoy great service, incredible views, beautiful food, friendly staff and comfortable suites.

We had a short, but very sweet stay over the long weekend! The setting is too gorgeous, the breakfast was delicious and the staff were very friendly! An ideal stop for couples looking to get away from the hustle of Cape Town.

We went to Essere Lodge for a weekend sleepover, had a birthday and wedding on. The cabin that we stayed in was perfect, we loved everything, from the heated lights in the bath room to the flowers on our bed to the lovely lemon verbena liquid soap, the warm welcome from Alison and staff, the 2 dogs, Watson and Sherlock and the 2 horses and cat! The view and surroundings were amazing!! The cabin was well equipped with everything that we needed and more. We are usually frustrated with not enough plugs etc,the small things, they cater for everything, air con, heaters everything!! We will definitely go back! Thanks for an awesome weekend Alison

This place was very special. The family have taken on a massive project to restore this land and the beautiful converted buildings within and they have done a splendid job.
We so enjoyed relaxing outside on the terrace with a lovely braai. The owners dogs - Sherlock and Watson :) I wanted to taken them home with me!

Myself and my girlfriend really enjoyed our stay here. The owner, Allison, was incredibly helpful and friendly and really made us feel welcome. The layout of the lodge is well done which really adds to the relaxing atmosphere. One of the comfiest beds I have ever slept in.

A perfect, quiet, relaxing spot to use as your base if you're visiting Tulbach.
Essere is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of life, but is really conveniently located at the same time.
A truly pretty setting.

We had the brand new two bedroom, self-service log cabin and are very sorry that we were only there for one night. We will definitely try to get there again for a longer period. Very comfortable and peaceful. Alison was kind and helpful with information for places to eat and things to do and see.

We found Tulbagh to be close enough to Cape Town for a quick weekend away with family & friends.
Clean town with stunning wine farms, wine tasting and lovely restaurants.

Very picturesque with great hiking, mountain biking trails.

Lots of convenient shops in the town.

Can't wait for our next visit.
