When arriving at the gate we could not go to reception as it was flooded that morning by the still rising Chobe river! The owner and his staff were rushing to move what they could, clear chalets semi under water and set up a temporary restaurant and sitting room underneath trees in the campsite. No chaos among very challenging circumstances. The campsites are spacious enough, the own ablution and dish washing facilities per campsite were the best we experienced during our 12 camp visit to NAM and BW. A small negative, that affects all camps in the near Kasane area, is the noise of the bars etc. in the town at night. If you want to have the in the bush wild camp experience with silence then select Ihaha about an hour and 20 min drive from the town (a town) or Senyati, 17 km from the town on the A33 road to Nata. Be prepared to have elephants etc. paying you a visit at night.
Just back from an awesome trip around Botswana. Unfortunately when we arrived at the Big 5 Chobe lodge- a lot of it was under water from the flood!! We were camping so it didn’t affect us and the camp site was nice, each site having private ablutions/kitchen facilities which is great. Staff were friendly, although it was a bit chaotic but I put that down to them having to relocate their reception!
A big shout out the Aaron the ranger who took us on a game drive, he was so knowledgeable and fun. Also to Nicholas who is one of the staff at the lodge who arranged dinner for us on our final night(because we couldn’t eat at the lodge due to the kitchen being under water), Nicholas is an absolute asset to the team there and I hope management read these reviews!!!
Good hotel, great location, very friendly and helpful staff. Sox - the greatest of game trackers! House keeping staff going the extra mile to keep you happy. Changes towels and soaps every day - can you imagine!
The campsite is at the back of the lodges in a fence in site, each large, shady, flat stand has its own individual toilet / bathroom / sink / power / water supply. OK there is no view but you can go and dip in the lodge pool and relax by the river. Otherwise ticks all the boxes as a campsite. Shoprite is just around the corner. And it is a few minutes drive to the park. Friendly helpful staff organised a boat tour for us.
