The town is surrounded by the Rooiberge and is situated at the foot of Mount Horeb, with stunning views of the Maloti Berge and only 20 km from Golden Gate National Park. Clarens has become known as the “Jewel of the Free State” due to the beauty of its unspoiled natural surroundings.

For those who need a bit of pampering there are also spa facilities.
There is also the Clarens Craft Brewery where you can sit back and sip on a freshly brewed beer or cider at the foothills of the Maloti Mountains. The Sterkfontein Dam Nature Reserve is another great place to enjoy the outdoors in Clarens.
In Fouriesburg (30km), there’s an Asparagus Festival round about September and in Ficksburg (83km), the Cherry Festival takes place in November each year.
Clarens is also an ideal stop over en route to Lesotho, the Drakensberg and Sani pass.
