Set amongst red Enon hills, and surrounded by game and nature with magnificent views, glorious sunsets, and star filled nights. There are three chalets set on a hillside overlooking the valley and one cottage in the dry riverbed. Each of the chalets has a private deck with armchairs and cushions, each decorated in a different animal theme. If you are looking for Tourist Graded luxury 5* lodge this is not the place for you, but we do endeavour to give you all the comforts that you might need and our guests have definitely rated us 5*. The Chalets are set 300m and the Cottage about 50m from the main lodge where we light our nightly fire, eat dinner and breakfast. The animal view from here in the evening is spectacular. This makes every evening a really special occasion. The Chalets are directly linked to our two walking trails which take you right up to the hills and valleys and back to your chalet. Our 4th Self Catering Cottage is tucked away in the river bed. It has its own fireplace and is completely secluded from the main lodge and other Chalets - but guests may, of course, join for breakfast or dinner, as you wish. This is a perfect honeymoon hideaway or for small families.

In Room Facilities:

Private secluded deck overlooking valley, tea/coffee station, en-suite bathroom with shower, mini fridge with bottled water (no charge), cooling fans for summer, heater for winter, bedding and towels provided. Hair dryer on request.

Area Information:

From the moment you turn off the Vergelegen Road onto the windy track over the riverbed (sometimes dry in summer), you know you are in for something special! You realise immediately that this IS a secret place, hidden away, a little piece of African magic unlike anything else you will ever have experienced. It is this very same feeling that you as a Guest feel, that made the owners fall instantly in love with Zwartberg View Mountain Lodge and decided to buy it in February 2016.

Property Facilities:

On the farm there are a few relaxing activities, swimming, hiking, reading on your deck, watching the animals, and enjoying the scenery.

Attractions:

The Vergelegen Road upon which Zwartberg View Mountain Lodge is situated leads one directly to the R328 and one of the most highly sought after circular routes in South Africa, down the Swartberg Pass to Prince Albert, through Meiringspoort and de Rust and back home to us, in time for sundowners and another fantastic dinner!! Along the same route you’ll encounter ostrich farms, wine estates, and of course one of the greatest natural wonders in the world - the awesome Cango Caves and Cango Ostrich Farm - directly accessible from here!

George is 65km from here over the Outeniqua Pass and leads to Knysna and on to Port Elizabeth, this is the spectacular Garden Route. Mossel Bay just over the fabulous Robinson Pass is just 98km. The famous Route 62 opens up to you on our doorstep!

For those who feel like seeing more game, Buffelsdrift offers game drives and the Cango Wildlife Ranch can teach one a lot about all sorts of various reptiles and animals.

Zwartberg View Mountain Lodge is a real little piece of Heaven. Rooms are tastefully decorated and very functional. Having a drink on the veranda or at the swimming pool whilst watching the wild animals is quite an experience. The quiet & peace together with the fresh air is food for the soul. We will definitely come back to Zwartberg for more stays. We would definitely recommend anyone to stay over and experience the bush whilst still being close to all the necessary amenities and also being able to have so many things to do in the vicinity. Keep it up Zwartberg View Mountain Lodge!!!!

Look no further for a perfect break from the hassle and bussle. Great nature experience and hospitality to soothe away everyday stresses and rejuvenate while enjoying nature and wildlife. The lodge is easily accessible and provides the right balance of comfort and rustic Africa experience. The highlight is the tranquility and the ability to get really close to majestic wildlife as they enjoy feeding in front of the lodge terrace. Amazing sunrise and sunset, and the Milky Way stars are awesome!

On a roadtrip with my son, and on our way back from Addo, we decided to stay over around Oudtshoorn, ending up with the magnificent views and hospitality of the Varley Family and their no nonsense approach to comfort and excellence.
Viewing the animals from the evening dinner deck brought a new perspective to the different personalities of animals, from the skittish kudu to the regal Giraffe and the intrusive little troublemaking Guinea Fowl.
We had a good rest, loads of hot water, clean and comfortable lodging and spectacular morning and evening views. The type of "Visiting friends/family" holiday experience with the exuberant hospitality we have known as kids.
Will definitely return to the Varley family and follow their progress and growth with a keen eye. Special place. Special people.

Oudtshorn has to be the ultimate South African tourist town. Everything seems to be tourist orientated and each property we have seen looks amazing.
Here at the Zwartberg Lodge, we were treated to an amazing experience, the Main lodge provided excellent meals and the hosts went out of their way to assist and guide us to ensure we saw all the sights. We even got to take a little hike!
