We as a group of 5 guests (2 couples and 1 single traveller) chose this property based on Hoedspruit's excellent centrality for visiting both the stunningly beautiful Blyde River Canyon and Kruger Park via Orpen and Phalaborwe Gates and of course what the property offered in it's advertised profile and we were very pleased overall with this choice. In fact it was the best on our 11 day visit to northen South Africa (Limpopo and Mpumalanga)
Giraffe Lodge itself is of a pleasing contemporary African style of decor and is a very well equipped property with extremely comfy beds dressed with high standard linen and surrounded by mosquito nets though these thankfully weren't needed on our stay. The twin bedroom however is located up steep stairs in a loft-like area which is not suitable for elderly nor physically challenged guests and the profile should mention this as our single traveller was mid seventies and couldn't manage these stairs though kids would doubtlessly love it! The lodge also offers an extensive tv & radio selection plus complimentary wifi for staying in touch with our families back home. The outdoors braai and dining facilities added to our enjoyment each day both at breakfast and dinner times. On our first morning there we discovered there was no running water at Giraffe Lodge which necessitated a call to the local agents who responded back promptly offering a solution so we could get out and enjoy our day-no further issue occurred I'm pleased to say.
We loved the freedom of being able to conduct our own self drive game drives in the wildlife estate where Giraffe Lodge is situated but a map of this area would have been helpful to make the most of this opportunity. Also a second set of keys to Giraffe Lodge and access card to the wildlife estate would be preferable for when any of the group want to go their own way as currently it's a case of all must go together at all times.
Hoedspruit itself is a cosy little town with adequate shopping facilities for self-catering at Giraffe Lodge and a limited number of dining establishments one of which we used on Saturday night after a long day at Kruger Park
We would without hesitation use Giraffe Lodge on any future visit to the area.
Our family, including two young kids, stayed at Giraffe Lodge over a long weekend. We had such an awesome time...the lodge is very well equipped..the swimming pool and boma was wonderful! We will definitely be back..great value for money!
A fantastic house located in a wildlife estate in Hoedspruit South Africa.
The house has all you need to enjoy the African lifestyle.
Well equiped and lovely decorated, offers 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms ( one outdoors) a kitchen, airco in living and bedrooms, a splash pool, tv, WiFi, BBQ and much more.
Situation is in a 100ha wildlife estate, you will get to see antilope, warthogs, zebra, kudu, giraffe, waterbok, etc, within the estate even in your garden.
The gated estate is 100% secure and well maintained and although you live in the wilderness, once you are out of the park you will find a commercial center; just outside the gate.
The house is well managed a cleaning lady comes regularly, sheets and towels are changed every 3 days, a gardner takes care of the pool and the braai (bbq)
We did spend a month at this unique place and enjoyed the location , the weather, and the many things to do, all within an hour or less driving from Hoedspruit. The Kruger park is at your doorstep, The Blyde canyon, the potholes and the panoroma route are an ideal daytrip. Or make a trip with a micro light airplane, perfect alternative to a helicopter tour but far less expensive.
One will find very good restaurants within Hoedspruit, a dinner will cost less than 200 Rand per person (15 €). Had & Creeck was our favourite.
The owners, Silvia and Antonio are lovely people and very helpfull in any wich way. Also many thanks to Lisa, the manager at the Wildlife Estate, a request or guidance, she will help you.
You will get a good deal for a rental car near the estate at Trophy's, with transfer possible to Johannesbourg airport.
I can only recommend to spend more than just a few days. We would have loved to even stay longer than one month. Whenever possible we will go back, hopefully next winter.
All included, even the the cost of flying too SA, the cost of our stay was less then what we would have spend in Gran Canaria. and a lot more to see and to do, plus warm weather also in the evening.
What a great place!
A very comfortable place to stay with family of 5. Only minor issue was no sport channels on TV - but you do not come to South Africa to watch sport on TV.
