With its World Heritage Site Status, the Baviaanskloof Nature Reserve is home to the biggest wilderness area in the country and is also one of the eight protected areas of the Cape Floristic Region.

The Baviaanskloof Mega-Reserve covers 200km of unspoiled, rugged mountainous terrain with spectacular landscapes hosting more than a thousand different plant species, including the Erica and Protea families and species of ancient cycads.

Seven of South Africa’s eight biomes are represented within the Baviaanskloof Nature Reserve – Fynbos, Forest, Grassland, Succulent Karoo, Nama-Karoo, Subtropical Thicket and Savanna.

The Cambria valley, boxed in by the magnificent Baviaans and Kouga mountain ranges, forms the gateway to the Baviaanskloof Nature Reserve and Wilderness Area. The name Cambria, apparently Welsh for the country of Wales, was bestowed on the area by an earlier visitor who was struck by its resemblance to his homeland. The area with it's pristine natural forests, fynbos and valley bushveld, offers excellent eco-recreational opportunities.

The Cambria area in the Baviaanskloof offers excellent opportunities for outdoor recreation activities. Some of the most popular include, Mountain Hiking, Mountain Biking, Bird Watching, Game Viewing, Nature Walks and 4x4 Trails.

This magnificent reserve is a must-see for all nature and adventure enthusiasts.

The lodge is in a very good spot to navigate the Baviaans Nature Reserve. It is very remote, so make sure you bring lots to entertain yourself, as there is no entertainment at the lodge. The hostess was extremely helpful and we were well fed.

Wonderful friendly family who made our stay memorable. The trip out in the 4X4 was wonderful and Estie took great care and my wife was very appreciative of the careful driving. We would recommend a stop here to our friend if they were to come to South Africa.

Well located, clean and comfortable guest accommodation, especially for visitors with a long approach who are entering the Baviaanskloof from the east. Reservation was made directly with establishment and booking was handled efficiently.

We had a wonderful stay here. Personnel is very helpful en friendly, the rooms are spacious and the food is great (especially in the evening). We had a normal car so couldn’t further enter the Baviaanskloof by ourselves, but they arranged an individual 4x4 tour for us, which was great!

The story of how a quaint farmhouse in the mountains became a lodge. The setting is picture perfect. Hans Christiaan Anderson could have written about the lovely hosts! I found real country hospitality, friendly staff and a home away from home. Clean rooms and great quality beds. Farm-style cooking every night. The chicken dish is to-die-for and real pumpkin-pie with cinnamon is served. The trip over Bergplaas to Doodsklip was breathtakingly beautiful. The guide excellent and the light lunch very welcome. The staff really know the area and what to lookout for. This is my new house in the mountains. Thank you for a wonderful time.

We’ve spend our night before going into Baviaanskloof in the lodge. The location is amazing and the view is great. The garden offers good rest before driving over the bumpy roads. The owner was very nice and discussed breakfast time with us. The dinner was amazing and the pumpkin pie is to die for. Would definitely recommend this to anyone traveling the Kloof from this side.
