TANAGRA is an idyllic wine farm close to McGregor and part of the Robertson Wine Route and Route 62. We offer comfortable accommodation in well appointed guest cottages, and produce handcrafted wines in a boutique wine cellar and stylish Grappa and Eau de Vie in our boutique distillery.
In Room Facilities:
Faraway (3) Faraway is built on the most solitary spot of the farm ? just fynbos, mountains, endless skies, and silence. It combines the traditional features of a Cape Langhuis with an eco-friendly (off the grid) and modern design (large panorama windows & doors).

Hill Cottage (1) Romantic and private one bedroom cottage, sitting alone on a hill, surrounded by indigenous fynbos and overlooking the Tanagra vineyards with breathtaking views into the McGregor and Robertson valley.

Loft Studio (2) This spacious one bedroom studio is located above the Tanagra winery (81sqm in size, incl. considerable roof slope). The highlight is a spacious and sunny wooden deck providing scenic views on the mountains, the beautiful farm dam and the vineyards.

Garden cottage (8) Spacious one bedroom cosy country cottage (47sqm), with coloured screed floor and reed ceiling, located in the garden next to the pool while still providing privacy. Sheltered stoep looking out on nature reserve.

Bottlebrush (4) Charming and spacious one-bedroom apartment attached to the old Tanagra homestead. Wooden floors and high vault reed ceilings keep this apartment light and airy. Braai place in the garden and lovely views on the mountains.

Gumtree (7) Gumtree is a charming and spacious one-bedroom apartment attached to the old Tanagra homestead. Wooden floors and high vault reed ceilings keep this apartment light and airy. Braai place in the garden and lovely views on the mountains.

Area Information:
TANAGRA is an idyllic wine farm close to McGregor and part of the Robertson Wine Route and Route 62. We offer comfortable accommodation in well appointed guest cottages, and produce handcrafted wines in a boutique wine cellar and stylish Grappa and Eau de Vie in our boutique distillery. An old wild fig tree gave the farm its name, 'Tanagra' - it echoes the Khoisan expression for a well-shaded place. This giant tree canopies the historic homestead and winery, providing welcoming shade during the hot days of summer.

Property Facilities:
The best thing to do is to simply rest and unwind with a good book and a glass of wine in the garden or on your stoep, and explore the farm for walks or to watch birds which are there in abundance. Tanagra farm is 78ha in size and for most parts accessible by various walking/hiking trails (also great for mountain-biking) ranging from a leisurely 10 minutes' walk to a couple of hours' hike. If you wish to be more active, there are a variety of activities to pursue.

Attractions:
Tanagra is situated in the McGregor/Robertson valley at the border of the Klein Karoo (Western Cape, South Africa), surrounded by vineyards, indigenous wild fynbos and mountains. Most of the 78ha farm is accessible by various walking/hiking trails (also great for mountain biking) with access into the Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve with longer bird-walks and mountain trails. The area offers a variety of activities and seasonal festivals for you to enjoy.

My husband and I spent a relaxing and restorative few days at Tanagra recently.
Robert and Anette were wonderful hosts taking care of all our needs but also respecting our privacy. We stayed in Gumtree cottage which was clean, comfortable and well designed with all we needed. We especially enjoyed the log fire during the cold winter nights - having gathered our own (fantastic) kindling between the vines as suggested by Anette!
We enjoyed tasting and buying wines and Grappa at Tanagra, as well as some of the other local wine farms, and walked and cycled in the beautiful fynbos and succulent Vrolikheid nature reserve as well as the beginning of the Boesmanskloof Trail. A visit to the Eseltjiesrus Donkey Sanctuary across the road was worthwhile. The few restaurants we visited served delicious fare - even by our spoilt Cape Town standards - and the relatively uncommercialized atmosphere in McGregor made for a wonderful escape. We will happily return to Tanagra for future visits.
Superb. 5 out of 5

Enough good food and wine to enjoy without being commercialized and touristy. Enjoyed the countryside and being “away from it all”.
