De Lusthof Guest Farm offers a sandstone guest cottage, nestled in the hills of a spectacular Eastern Free State Valley. The water is cool, pure and sweet, coming from a spring. It is surrounded by majestic mountains. The farm is made for the hiker and the world-famous fertility cave, Motouleng, is on the farm. The nights are usually crisp and clear and the stars are extremely bright. Please note that there is a 5-kilometre gravel road en route to the farm which may not be suitable for vehicles with a low clearance. De Lusthof's main attraction is its tranquillity. If you truly want to get away, yet enjoy a high standard of luxury, this will appeal to you.

We had a wonderful weekend in very nice clean accommodation in beautiful peaceful surroundings. The beds and bedding were fabulous - crisp clean cotton comfort. It was well equipped. The house is small and it is difficult to understand how 6 adults can be comfortably accommodated; we were 4 and that was fine. A family with children would fit very well. It was lovely to be outside of Clarens in such peace far from the madding crowds but also to be able to go into town with ease when we wanted to. The house is in close proximity to the staff quarters and to the entrance of the famous cave heritage site but there was no problem; it added to the interest of the place. We could walk in the hills and the birding was good. I did not see any good spots for fishing though as it was very dry. We felt very safe and we had a happy relaxing time. We would go back.

The best part of Clarens is that there is always something happening and the people are super friendly.

Clarens is a beautiful quaint little town. It has everything you could possibility need, gorgeous gift shops, restaurants with delicious food and a craft brewery all set in the majestic mountains. It's the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Must visits : The Purple Onion, which is a deli kind of store. Clarens Brewery is a must, the beer & ciders are great and the food menu is limited but fantastic. Also Red Stone Distillery has a great range of gins and there cocktails are also great. The Art Cafe is fantastic restaurant if you have kids, as they have a nice big play area for them and the food is delicious. And there cakes are to die for.

Loved everything about Clarens - people, restaurants, cherry bier (amazing), shops. Only the road to get there was bad with lots of potholes at a stage.
