Elsewhere, amongst all the shops and restaurants, we also have available two self catering cottages. Despite being right in the centre of town they are hidden away behind one of the towns most iconic buildings affording peace, privacy and seclusion. Both cottages are set around a walled garden and share a splash-pool.

The main bedroom has a queen-size bed and air-conditioning/heating with french doors opening onto a totally private stoep allowing access to the second bedroom which has two single beds and is equipped with a ceiling fan. A third bath room is accessed from the living area. The cottage also benefits from a comprehensive kitchen/dining area adjacent to a larger than average lounge area with ceiling fans and a built-in fireplace. This opens onto a shady stoep overlooking the splash pool and garden.

* Gecko 2

Area Information:

Prince Albert, South Africa is a small town in the Western Cape in South Africa. It is located on the southern edge of the Great Karoo, at the foot of the Swartberg mountains.

We are situated close to restaurants, shops and bars.

Property Facilities:

* Garden.
* Splash pool.

Attractions:

* Swartberg Pass.

Just 4km from the town is the entrance to the mighty Swartberg Pass, 27km of winding gravel road full of hairpins and switchbacks, up the moutain range from the Great Karoo over 'Die Top' at nearly 1600m and back down into the Little Karoo. Its not to be missed, keep a keen eye out for wildlife, you never know what you might encounter. Look out for the Proteas at highter levels. Also you'll find the road to 'Die Hell' about halfway over. Leave yourself plenty of time, don't hurry stop and stretch you legs at all the viewpoints, take pictures savour the experience!

* Cango Caves

On the south side of the Swartberg Pass are the famous Cango Caves. A vast network of underground passages and chambers. The history of it you can read elsewhere on the web but, suffice to say that its a MUST do excursion. It can get busy at peak times and its worth booking in advance rather than just pitching up. If you're quite active and maybe a little slimmer than me the go all out and book the adventure tour! There are lots of little eateries along the road that goes back towards Oudtshoorn. Check out their website here for more detailed information.

Peace and quiet; feeling of safety; good clean air. We attended a wonderful photographic course with Louis Botha.

The variety of things to do from hiking to cycling down a mountain, wine tasting, general relaxing in the various restaurant / gift shops. HIGHLIGHT SWARTBERG PASS!

Prince Albert is a lovely little town at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains.
What struck me in particular is how clean the streets are and the friendliness of the locals.
We went to a movie in “The Showroom” and were surprised to find such an amazing Art deco gem in the middle of the Karoo. “The Showroom” boasts state-of-the-art theatre and cinema equipment, making it suitable to facilitate and attract some of the country’s top performers.

Superb. 5 out of 5
