Rockwood is situated on Spitzkop Farm and within the Karkloof Nature Reserve in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. The greater Karkloof area has been identified as having significant value due to its biodiversity and has been earmarked for conservation by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife. Currently, the reserve consists of about 60% mist-belt forest / 40% mist-belt grassland and ranges from 1000m to 1767 m above sea level. This results in a significant number of endemic and near-endemic species of fauna and flora, including the Karkloof Blue butterfly (Orachrysops ariadne), and a sub-species of crested guinea fowl.
Property Facilities:Mountain Biking,
Natural Pools and Dams,
Trampoline & Jungle Gym
Birding,
Walking / Hiking / Trail Running
The Karkloof is excellent mountain biking country with the biggest race, the Karkloof Classic, taking place about 14kms away at the Karkloof Country Club.
Enjoy swinging over the treetops with Karkloof Canopy Tours which commence in our private nature reserve. Our guests qualify for a special, discounted rate.
Trout and bass fishing is possible in Godwini Dam and there are several fishing weirs and splash pools within the Reserve. The two dams (unfenced) at Rockwood Farm House and Cottage are for your exclusive use.
Indulge in a leisurely spot of birding while your kids enjoy the children's play area.

Howick Reviews
Black Olive for lunch on Sunday.
Unfortunately with the hard lockdown we were unable to try restaurants and pubs. So I would like to reserve my comments for a later stage.
Still want to go to the Howick Falls, Midmar Dam and the Mooirivier Mideor. Need to spend more time in Howick.
Just travelled through, really.
View the falls and eat at the various restaurants in the town. Food was excellent.
Howick is very limited in what it offers... best to drive out to spots in the surrounding Midlands areas...
Midmar dam, Nelson Mandela capture site, stunning restaurants and shops.
Pleasant little country village to stop in and see the Howick falls.
We enjoyed our lunch at the Farmer's Daughter restaurant... dog friendly too.
Snow, the area, horse play, the lakes.
