Tutwa Desert Lodge is situated on 16 000 hectares of Private Game Reserve, in between the barren Green Kalahari and mighty Orange River in the Northern Cape. The cool, spacious interiors of the lodge provide an oasis of tranquil luxury and offer a unique and private wildlife experience.
The colours of Tutwa Lodge are organic and muted, with polished floors, high ceilings and original artworks. Natural game paths pass the lodge, and it’s likely antelope, giraffe, zebra and other African game may wander past.
In Room Facilities:There are 5 Luxury Rooms, 2 Superior Rooms, and 2 Annex Suites. All our suites are spacious, air-conditioned, and dressed with fine linens, full bathrooms, personal bathrobes, and indulgent amenities. All suites have their own verandas and or balconies offering landscape and mountain views of the beautiful Green Kalahari.
Full luxury bespoke amenities are provided and room facilities include air-conditioning, fine percale linens, mosquito nets, bathrobes, hairdryers, safe, tea and coffee making facilities with homemade rusks, a minibar which can be stocked on request, and bottled water.
Area Information:Situated in the remote, North Eastern mineral-rich region of South Africa, and bordering on the border of Namibia’s border the Northern Cape is a vast, sparsely populated region of wide-open spaces, spectacular scenery, and ancient heritage.
Tutwa is actively engaged in a leopard protection project, in addition to other conservation initiatives aimed to conserve the natural flora and fauna of this fragile environment. The lodge is also committed to conservation on the Orange River, as Tutwa's river activities and excursions offer guests world-class adventure in a pristine wilderness area.
What the Northern Cape lacks in people, it gains invaluable natural resources, particularly diamonds. These are found in the east of the province at Kimberley and the extreme west of Alexander Bay. Tutwa is situated in a region referred to as the Green Kalahari.
Essentially a scenic region where Klipspringer and Kokerboom (quiver trees) stand in stark silhouette against the African sky, silent sentinels in a strangely unique environment where only those who have been able to adapt, have survived.
The Northern Cape is known largely for its annual display of wildflowers, a popular tourist attraction bringing thousands of visitors to this magnificent region to enjoy this annual spectacle.

Tutwa is located in desert rocks that provide an incredible game of light throughout the day. In the early morning you see a golden touch, in the day the red brown light of the desert prevails, in the evening the sundown takes you to a Mars alike scene. Tutwa offers plenty of game watching directly in front of the lodge at the water hole and rare animals when driving. Norman the ranger has a comprehensive knowledge of fauna, flora, geology, tectonic and animal behavior. Tutwa is only a few minutes away from Orange River. It was most enjoyable to kanoe and swim in the river. Food in the lodge is tasty and typical South African style. Breakfast and dinner can be served on the terrasse. If you visit Augrabies falls, Tutwa‘s sister lodge Dundi is a great lunch location. Tutwa lodge rooms are charming, spacious and well protected against insects. We traveled with a family of 9 adults + 2 kids age 8&9. We very much enjoyed Tutwa and are happy to recommend.
Right in the middle of absolutely no where this oasis has so much to offer, its beauty and pure untouched natural surroundings makes it one of the best. So many activities in which a true tranquility seeker would definitely fulfill their needs.
This lodge is unique, an unforgettable staying with a lot of highlights. You really felt hosted in a familiarly and very sympathetic way.
