The thatch & stone lodge has recently been refurbished with several suites, all with beautiful views of the surrounding pine forests. Rooms, all en-suite, have their own private patio, perfect for "feet up" early morning cuppa's. For those requiring self-catering, a fully equipped, four sleeper, family cottage is available. The fisherman's cottage, which sleeps up to eight, offers a more rustic self-catering option. It is secluded at the edge of property, at the trout dams & raceways, and is ideal for group fishing trips.

The farm is a full working "trout-farm", comprising of a processing area, hatchery, nursery, raceways and naturally, for the enthusiastic fly fisherman-two stocked dams. Limited stream fishing is also available for the more experienced fisherman. Private fly fishing lessons and group clinics can be arranged on site.

After a days fishing one can enjoy a drink at the bar, have a game of pool or darts then unwind in the sauna or swimming pool. Of course should it be chilly one can warm up around roaring log fires in the lounge.

The lodge is just the place for a fishing vacation or weekend getaway, but any nature lover will find themselves in a proverbial paradise. For the sedentary tourist, relaxing on the wooden decked patio watching the abundant birdlife is a must. The Sabie area is truly a birders paradise. Not only is there a huge variety of the more common bird species, but a number of globally and nationally threatened species also occur in the area.

For those in need of exercise, on farm trails and walks to the nearby waterfalls & caves are just as enjoyable but should you require additional stimulation: - Clay-pigeon shooting can be organized on site. Arrangements can be made for Quad Bike tours, horse riding, gorge-swinging, rafting & many more activities.

The aborigine word for home is "Gunya". The name of our guest lodge is Gunyatoo, embedded in our name is our philosophy and commitment to our guests - " our home is your home". Come and stay with us a while and it can be your Gunya-too!

In Room Facilities:

Rooms, all en-suite, have their own private patio, perfect for "feet up" early morning cuppa's. For those requiring self-catering, a fully equipped, four sleeper, family cottage is available. The fisherman's cottage, which sleeps up to eight, offers a more rustic self-catering option. It is secluded at the edge of property, at the trout dams & raceways, and is ideal for group fishing trips.

Area Information:

The area is geared towards tourism with an array of activities, ranging from extreme adrenalin pumping sports to gentle hot air balloon flights, horse trails, quad biking, golfing, bush walks and more. At Gunyatoo, guided forest trails and walks to the nearby waterfalls and caves are gladly arranged. Clay pigeon shooting can also be organised on site.

Sudwala Caves, Fanie Botha Hiking Trail, Kruger National Park, Graskop "Big Swing", Pilgrims Rest, Panorama Drive and a Casino, are all within an hour's drive. There are also a number of golf courses within a hour's drive from Sabie, making Gunyatoo a central base for a memorable golfing holiday. Take a swing at some of the following excellent golf courses: Kruger Park Lodge (Hazyview): 9-holes, White River Country Club: 18-holes, Pine Lake Inn (White River): 9-holes, Sabie River Sun, (Hazyview): 18-holes, TGME Golf Club (Pilgrim's Rest): 9-hole, Nelspruit Golf Club: 18-hole, Lydenburg Golf Club: 9-hole or Skukuza (Kruger National Park): 9-hole.

The Sabie area is truly a birders paradise. Not only is there a huge variety of the more common bird species, but a number of globally and nationally threatened species also occur in the area. Misty Mountain Heritage Site (6km's from Gunyatoo) holds small numbers of the critically endangered Blue Swallow, and the near-threatened Buffstreaked Chat, Secretarybird, Peregrine Falcon and Blackwinged Plover. The near-threatened Lanner Falcon is an occasional visitor to this site. Other, more common sightings, include Kurrichane Thrush, Whitethroated Robin, Swee Waxbill and Forest Canary.

Property Facilities:

The Lowveld and Mpumalanga Escarpment has, by virtue of its many hospitable stretches of water and active private trout breeding industry, become the mecca for fly fishermen in South Africa.

The climate at Gunyatoo is moderate. Summer days are warm (about 25 degrees Celsius) and winter days are mild with temperatures around 18 degrees Celsius. Throughout the year, the temperature drops in the evenings and winter nights can be cold and crisp.

Attractions:

The perfect country getaway, nestled in the picturesque and malaria free Rhenosterhoek valley, presents a charming fly-fishing, birding and nature retreat. For those in need of exercise, on farm trails and walks to the nearby waterfalls & caves are just as enjoyable but should you require additional stimulation:
- Clay-pigeon shooting can be organized on site.
