Offering friendly, family run accommodation within walking distance of the beach (800m).
Smalls Cottage is in an ideal holiday location for divers who wish to dive the Aliwal Shoal which is one of the world’s top 10 dive sites.
Smalls cottage can sleep up to 5 guests in 2 bedrooms, with a queen bed in the main bedroom, a bunk bed in the second bedroom, and also a single bed in the living area. There's one bathroom fitted with a bath, shower, toilet and washbasin. The kitchen is fully equipped with a stove, oven, fridge-freezer, microwave, cutlery and crockery while the lounge has a comfy lounge suite and a TV with OpenView channels and a DVD player.
For overnight guests we also have a 1 bedroom, non self catering room, sleeping up to maximum of 2 guests. The room is equipped with two single beds, a bar fridge, tea- and coffee-making facilities, shower & toilet.
Please note: No TV in this room. Breakfast can be arranged at R75-00 per person (must be arranged prior to arrival).
Safe parking in a quiet neighbourhood is ensured to all guests.
Linen is provided, however guests are asked to bring their own bath and beach towels.
The unit is serviced daily excluding weekends.
Umkomaas, is a small coastal town on the subtropical south coast of KwaZulu-Natal which was formed when a harbour was built in 1861 to export sugar.
Although the beach is not a swimming beach it is great to walk along the beach and rock pools and watch the dive boats launching on their journey to the world famous Aliwal Shoal. Only 9kms from Scottburgh which is a coastal resort town situated on the mouth of the Mpambanyoni River, 58kms south of Durban. Neighbouring towns include Pennington, Renishaw, Clansthal and Park Rynie.
Points of interest include Aliwal Shoal, Croc World, Umkomazi River and Umkomaas Golf course.
June & July months are a bit cooler and an ideal time to witness the Sardine run where you may also spot Dolphins, Sharks, Cape Gannets & Game fish.

Smalls Cottage is the perfect home away from home. Has all the essentials needed to cook without hassles. Rooms are a decent size, clean and tidy.
Really had a nice stay in the quaint little town of umkomaas.

We booked an overnight stay and the host was extremely accommodating, even though we arrived very late at night due to a tire blowout.
The place was very clean and neat. Will definitely book another stay when we are travelling to the coast again.
