The origins of the farm and dark sky reserve Rogge Cloof (meaning rye ravine) date back to 1756 when Joachim Scholtz, the son of German and Nordic immigrants to Africa, acquired the property. The Reserve offers inclusive accommodation packages, as well as self-catering accommodation. A variety of activities are available, including cheetah tracking and wine tasting.

Units are situated within the Rogge Cloof Eco-Village, which is 12 km's from the Rogge Cloof main entrance. The road leading to the Eco-Village is a well-maintained gravel road, which is accessible to sedans.

Power sockets for recharging phones and laptops are available.
Uncapped, free Wi-Fi; no TV.
Daily housekeeping service is supplied, except on Sundays.

Area Information:

The Karoo is a semi-desert natural region of South Africa. There is no exact definition of what constitutes the Karoo, and therefore its extent is also not precisely defined. The Karoo is partly defined by its topography, geology, and climate — above all, its low rainfall, arid air, cloudless skies, and extremes of heat and cold. The Karoo also hosted a well-preserved ecosystem hundreds of million years ago which is now represented by many fossils.

Vegetation is sparse and becoming very sparse going northwards into Bushmanland and, from there, into the Kalahari Desert. The driest region of the Karoo, however, is its southwestern corner, between the Great Escarpment and the Cederberg-Skurweberg mountain ranges, called the Tankwa Karoo. The typical Karoo vegetation used to support large game, sometimes in vast herds.

Today sheep thrive on the xerophytes, though each sheep requires about 4 hectares of grazing to sustain itself.

Absolutely beautiful Thanks to the staff The chalet we stayed in was magnificent The clear sky at night is awesome The game drive we went on with Andre was am absolute experience with him showing us the fossils Plenty of game Also showing us and telling us about the stones and the various plants. Wish we could have stayed longer Being away from the hustle and bustle of City Life was an added bonus Once again thank you guys for the hospitality

The guesthouse, the food, the stars, the planetarium. No litter, no beggars and no starving stray dogs walking around.
