Possibly the finest accommodation in Swellendam, on South Africa’s Garden Route, Augusta de Mist is a lifestyle retreat set on over 2 ha of eclectic fynbos. This hideaway from the hustle is located in the historic Drostdy Quarter of Swellendam.
Our single goal is to ensure that our guests have the most memorable visits. Augusta de Mist is no ordinary guest establishment. It is not your average B&B. There is no reception. No formalities. You are greeted at your vehicle by the owner who will escort you to your suite while pointing out the highlights of the estate and the town. And before long our guests realise that staying at Augusta de Mist is not like staying at a hotel at all. You are staying with friends.
Accommodation consists of 6 luxurious suites in different locations on the estate, each one with its own unique atmosphere. The garden suites are unique with total privacy and intimate setting. Suites have fireplaces (wood supplied), modern comforts and individual AC/Heating.
For a unique dinner experience, book a table at ‘Augusta’s African Kitchen’ with its focus on pan-African cuisine. Dinners at the African Kitchen are alive with excellent eclectic music, attentive service and the best food around.
Breakfasts are lazy affairs under the vines in summer or in front of a log fire in winter, with strong coffee, fresh fruit and country-style hot offerings from our small seasonal menu.
The estate offers:
– Extensive grounds, with a private nature walk including two hidden picnic spots and a lookout.
- Guest lounge, veranda and patios everywhere
- Secure off-street parking under the giant oak tree, while Protea has its own private parking
- Large saltwater swimming pool, just perfect for a refreshing dip or the perfect setting for a glass or wine. Some guests simply dangle their toes in the water, while getting lost in a book
- Laundry service for longer stays
- Here you will find a vast collection of music on CD, as well as something to read on just about any topic
- Free WiFi around a good portion of the grounds (works on African speed)
- Car wash service
- Private treatment garden for massage & facials by appointment by qualified beautician (Please notify us that you would like a treatment and a convenient time will be arranged).

Reviews
The boys are back. After a two-year haitus in Chicago, they are back, and the cooking, with chef Lena, is more amazing than ever! Thank you, gentlemen, for another amazing stay. Not to be missed is of course the dinner (why would you stay here and not dine in? -- they are now open 5 days a week for evenings). This is a purely South African experience, and the hope for the future.
An outstanding venue. Magnificent house in a huge, dense garden,The cottages are very well appointed, lots of space, airy and bright. Huge bed, i had a wonderful sleep.
Our hostess Renata is warm and welcoming, lively and fun.
we did not have dinner here, but the breakfast is probably the best in the country.
