Bought by the owners in 2013, the whole property has been completely renovated and refurbished, after many years of neglect, to the highest modern standards. The buildings stand proudly in a landscaped indigenous garden designed by the guru of all indigenous gardeners, Elsa Pooley.
Shangrila is a true gem. Set in 8 acres of indigenous coastal gardens, forest and grassland is a beautiful old colonial beach home with wide wrap around verandahs, and truly magnificent views of the Indian Ocean. Bazley Beach, is a secluded and tranquil holiday resort just under an hour's drive from Durban.
The interiors have been exquisitely decorated by Fiamma Forsdick, the owner's sister, who is a well-known South African decorator. She has chosen elegantly comfortable furnishings, ideal for a beach homes. These compliment lovely antiques and art, which were collected at auctions for the house.
Elsa has created a beautiful garden, which is now a sanctuary for birds, butterflies, frogs and the elusive bushbuck and PT. There is also a magnificent rock garden created by Creina Alcock, which makes the inland view as spectacular as the sea views.

We had a wonderful and comfortable stay at Shangrila Beach House. Liz and her entire team were so friendly and accommodating. The position of the property and its access to the beach and its most stunning indigenous garden make it the perfect get-away venue. We will be back.
Shangri-la is always such a pleasure to holiday at. Both the cottage and the main house are so well kept, clean and well decorated. The rooms and bathrooms are comfortable and spacious. I have not been to many accommodations, where there are so many little touches that make it homely. For example, the complimentary tea and coffee's. The staff on property are sooo helpful, and assist with unpacking, and any arb things you need assistance with. Booking is so easy, and the information provided is clear, and very easy to understand. You can also additionally order from a list of home industry goods from the Bazley beach area. An absolutely beautiful and memorable spot to visit, every time. We most certainly will be back soon!
My wife and I chose Shangrila as our Honeymoon getaway destination as we wanted to be away from everything and everyone and be right on the beach.
We are very happy with the beautiful cottage that we had. It was so peaceful and quiet and we enjoyed being only a short walk from the beach and being able to sit on the verandah and watch the ocean.
Liz is a great host and a very friendly and accommodating person. I recommend Shangrila to everyone looking for a holiday spot on the South Coast. We will definitely be going back there.
It was an amazing experience. We got to stay in a peaceful, pet friendly place near the beach. So we had it all. We even had the luxury of having meals prepared for us at a few, which was amazing. It was really personal attention to anything we required. We definitely will be back here. The owner was so involved and visited on our first and last day to make sure all went well. The caretakers were amazing and allowed us to sleep in and cleaning was done at times that we requested .
Our fur baby enjoyed very minute of it. Our stay was really great we were able to walk a few meters to the beach everyday which was Almost private
