Area Information:

Underberg is a popular base for those wanting to explore the Sani Pass. Organised tour operators take visitors up the pass in 4X4 vehicles. Passports are needed as you exit South Africa and enter Lesotho. Self drives are possible but a 4x4 is required.
Underberg is the gateway to the Southern Drakensberg and offers a wide range of activities for the whole family: Horse riding, hiking, mountain biking and fly fishing.

Property Facilities:

The tepees are situated around a central fire pit. Firewood is provided.
A braai is available for use.
Swimming is allowed in the dam but NO fishing.
A short but steep hike takes you down to the uMzimkulu River where swimming is also possible.

Attractions:

The little town of Underberg has many stunning attractions to see while holidaying in the area, such as the Coleford Nature Reserve, Cobham Nature Reserve, River Glen Cheesery, Pucketty Farm and much more.
Underberg is a small agricultural town, so named due to its position right underneath the Southern Drakensberg Mountains. Underberg’s scenery is magnificent, with the peaks of Giant’s Cup looming above the town, many small rivers and lush farm lands stretching out from every direction.
Known for its trout fishing, the southern Drakensberg boasts more fly-fishing opportunities than anywhere else in South Africa, with 60 dams and over 160km of river available. Underberg is also a beautiful place to go horse riding, hiking and swimming. In summer months, canoeists visit the area to paddle in the rivers from the uMkomazi to the uMzimkulu. Near to Underberg lies the town of Himeville which has a very good museum for those wanting to learn more about the history of the area.

Beautiful area. Having snow on the mountains added to the charm immensely but there are certainly so many places to visit and see. Our main purpose of our visit was to do the CHOC Walk up Sani Pass so didnt allow for too much touring time but definitely saw places we would go and visit on a return trip to the Underberg.
