Fisaasbos – its name derived from ‘Fisante Bos’ meaning Pheasant’s Bush (trivia) – is located on Remhoogte, a working fruit farm in the cul de sac of the Tulbagh valley. The harvest: apples, pears, cling peaches and prunes. Lots of prunes.
The recently renovated thatched cottage, perched on the hilltop overlooking the valley and guarded by the peaks of the Winterhoek, has served as secondary house and bachelor’s cottage to the main farm since the 1940s. The cottage is an extended rondawel with three (round) bedrooms: two doubles and one sleeping four on bunk beds. One double room claims a fireplace, the other the en suite bathroom (shower and bath). A second bathroom serves the rest. All linen and towels provided.
In Room Facilities:Don Quixote’s kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering purposes, with dishwasher, stove, microwave, fridge, coffee machine and the rest. The living room opens up to the front stoep, with views stretching across the valley, all the way to town and beyond.
Area Information:Tulbagh, named after Dutch Cape Colony Governor Ryk Tulbagh, is a town located in the "Land van Waveren" mountain basin (also known as the Tulbagh basin), in the Winelands of the Western Cape, South Africa. The basin is fringed on three sides by mountains, and is drained by the Klein Berg river and its tributaries.
Property Facilities:A backyard braai is set in the shade of some giant oak trees and with a view up the mountain slopes, cliffs and kloofs. And then there’s a sprawling lawn with pecan trees. BYO hammock. Barbecue grid, utensils and wood are provided, for both the braai and indoor fireplace. there's also a small swimming pool for those hot summer days
Pets are allowed but should be kept from wandering off. Good cell phone reception. Even better when ignored.
