Area Information:Upington is a town founded in 1884 and located in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, on the banks of the Orange River. The town was originally called Olyfenhoudtsdrif ('Olive wood drift'), due to the abundance of olive wood trees in the area, but later renamed after Sir Thomas Upington, Attorney-General and then Prime Minister of the Cape. It originated as a mission station established in 1875 and run by Reverend Christiaan Schröder.

Great weather. Stayed at Modern Executive Apartment in Schröder street. Beautiful, peaceful and safe place. I enjoyed the friendly people of Upington and the nice restaurants. Mr D also delivered promptly. Will be back again.
Has everything you'd need to top up or get on your way to Namibia, Botswana, or the far west coast. Amazing stat-over options, and amazing people.

The people seem friendlier and more polite than the city folks. The atmosphere seems relatively low-stressed.
Great mall and friendly people in Upington.
Upington is one of my favorite towns in South Africa. It is pristine, clean, people are friendly and helpful. Lots of things to do. Plenty accommodation to choose from. A perfect stop-over to and from Namibia.
Good to visit my birth town and see the growth.
