Area Information:
The Drakensberg aptly named by the early settlers, means "mountains of the Dragons, due to the high jiggered peaks, and in the summers the roaring of thunder, is one of the highest mountain ranges in Africa rising to over 3000 meters.
The Drakensberg is not only about its famous mountain peaks - Giants Castle, Champagne Castle,Cathedral Peak, Mont-Aux-Sources, the Amphitheater, and Tugela falls the second highest waterfall in the world, but the foothills are also graced with a number of lower peaks known as the Little Berg.
Within the Drakensberg of KwaZulu Natal lies the 243 000 hectare mountain region that is also a world heritage site, known as Ukhahlamba-Drakensberg Park. Not only does it boast some of the most incredible scenic beauty, but it also has over 600 examples of San rock paintings in caves around the park.

Staying in the shadow of these mountains brings immediate breathing space and a chance to unwind. Aside from hiking - and there are innumerable hikes that range in skill and fitness requirements throughout the entire Drakensberg - there are also horse trails, canopy tours, white water rafting, abseiling, local arts and crafts or simply ‘taking the air’ for those with little other than repose in mind.

In Room Facilities:
All chalets are fully equipped with stoves, ovens, microwaves, fridge/freezer, DStv ( Resorts channels), fans, heaters, safes, fireplaces, covered verandas, and individual braai areas.
All with magnificent mountain views and fireplaces for cosy winter evenings. The atmosphere is relaxed, the chalets carefully appointed for privacy and the resort is centrally located in one of the most popular tourist areas in the country.

We had the most heavenly, restful weekend there. Cottage 11 was perfect. The view from the kitchen and back patio was the dam, and the view from the lounge patio was the mountains: both beautiful. The cottage was spacious and comfortable and had everything we needed, including plastic containers in the kitchen. Wits End is peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed the walks in the forest and bike rides around the dam and over the hill. The "rock pool" themed swimming pool is a delight for kids to explore. We even loved playing ping pong in the pool house. My daughter loved looking for the donkeys. We felt safe, and though we had neighbors in other cottages, they are well spaced so that your peace not invaded. It is a very special place for anyone needing rest and recuperation. Also - the shop across the road near the Drakensburg Boys Choir School is a delight - beautiful fresh baked breads, rolls and goodies, and lovely packed fresh veggie packs. Bought lovely custard danishes there. Next time I will pack less. Thanks. We will be back.
Superb. 5 out of 5
