Whalesong Lodge is a small intimate guesthouse perched on top of the rugged De Kelders Cliffs overlooking the picturesque Walker Bay with the coastline stretching from the white sand dunes of "Die Plaat" past Hermanus all the way to Cape Point.
The 5 spacious open-plan Rooms are thoughtfully yet stylishly decorated each with a sea view and a small private balcony to take in the fresh sea air. The en-suite bathrooms, with under-floor heating, separate bath, and shower are elegant but functional.
The large comfortable open plan lounge & dining room lead out to a wooden deck. Ideal to watch the whales that play only meters from the shore. For the cooler months, there is a cozy fireplace and a good selection of Red Wines.
The wooden deck leads to a small pool but if one prefers to swim in the sea there are a number of small coves within easy walking distance. A short drive will take you to a number of sandy beaches.
De Kelders is situated in the Overberg region on the Cape Southwest coast, only 2 hours from Cape Town past the quaint village of Stanford just before the fishing village of Gansbaai world-renowned for its Great White Sharks.
Why De Kelders? Is north Face one of the few places on the Cape Southwest Coast where you are able to watch the sunset over the sea while enjoying sundowners? When you sit on the deck you are sheltered by the house from the prevailing summer off-shore wind. There are no street lights to pollute the night sky. But the biggest reason; is there is no place in South Africa where you are able to watch the whales from the shore, as you do from the De Kelders cliffs and Whalesong Lodge is on those cliffs.
Breakfast is lovingly prepared and served in an informal surrounding and with a stunning view over Walker Bay.
Whalesong Lodge is an ideal base to spend a number of days exploring the area. It's a paradise for whale watching, shark diving, or just leisurely walks along the coast.

Der Blick auf das Meer ist ein Traum. (Suite). Wir wurden sehr herzlich empfangen, alles war sehr sauber und gemütlich. Die Whalesong Lodge ist ein sehr kleines und persönlich geführtes Guesthouse. Es fühlt sich an, als wenn man bei Freunden wäre. Wir haben sehr nette Gespräche mit den Eigentümern und Gästen geführt. Frühstück ist sehr liebevoll und nach persönlichen Wünschen zubereitet. Für abends haben wir eine sehr gute Restaurantempfehlung 2 Minuten zu Fuß um die Ecke bekommen. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und würden das Hotel wieder buchen.
The view of the sea is a dream. (Suite). We were warmly welcomed, everything was very clean and comfortable. The Whalesong Lodge is a very small and personally run guesthouse. It feels like being with friends. We had very nice discussions with the owners and guests. Breakfast is very lovingly and according to personal wishes prepared. For dinner we got a very good restaurant recommendation 2 minutes walk around the corner. We felt very comfortable and would book the hotel again.

When we arrived we were made to feel extremely welcome. The lodge is situated right on the beach front, with views that are breath taking. On arrival we were informed of everything available to us both at Whalesong Lodge and the surrounding area of Gansbaai. The cleanliness was impeccable the attention to detail in the rooms was amazing, with an extensive breakfast menu available every day. Would highly recommend a stay here, and we hope to come back soon.

The service was outstanding, dinner at a nearby restaurant pre booked, just in case we needed it (which we did) and a breakfast full of local produce and home made delicates. The view from the terrace was amazing and perfect for a sun downer. The room and com areas beautifully designed and decorated.
Antje ist eine supernette Gatgeberin und hatte sehr hilfreiche Tipps für uns. Das gesamte Haus ist der Hammer!!! Die Einrichtung ist wunderschön. Der Blick vom Frühstück sensationell. Alles wurde noch von unserem Zimmer getoppt! Wir hatten das größte Zimmer mit der Panorama-Glasfront. Ich glaube, wir hatten noch nie ein schöneres Zimmer. Man wacht auf und blickt direkt auf das Meer. Das Zimmer ist sehr groß und hat sogar eine Whirlpool-Badewanne. Wir wollen zur Wal-Saison auf jeden Fall nochmals herkommen.

Loved staying in the suite with amazing views of the whales and scenery.
Particular loved waking up to the smell of fresh cookies and cake being baked everyday!

We stayed at Whalesong mid September as part of a broader loop trip from Cape Town along the Garden Route and return. Whalesong was our first stop after leaving Cape Town and what a delight it was! Situated at De Kelders, just past Hermanus, the lodge is situated on the cliffs overlooking the bay. We had the large upstairs room at the front where we enjoyed stunning views over the ocean. We could lay in bed each morning watching the whales frolic in the water below us! De Kelders is a much quieter option than Hermanus and we would highly recommend it if you want a location without hustle and bustle. There are a couple of good restaurants nearby, some within an easy walking distance. Breakfasts are plentiful and delicious. Highly recommended!

Definitely a fantastic place to visit during whale season.
The views are just a true beauty of Nature. Walking trails, whales season. comes with the best accommodation in the area and restaurants too.
What a spectacular find, stunning view! A family birthday weekend blessed with good weather and whales to entertain us. De Kelders is one of the most beautiful places on earth. The views are simply magnificent. Long stretches of quiet beaches. Whale season is incredible, in 2018 we had more than a 1000 whales in the bay.
However, De Kelders is loved and cherished by well seasoned travelers who return year upon year.
