Meals are freshly prepared in camp by chefs using a charcoal oven and local produce. The set menu is served up in our palm-thatched, open-plan dining area situated overlooking the water.
Alongside the dining area, is a comfortable, atmospheric bar and lounge area... also thatched! The views of the river from here are spectacular, and the sunset in particular is not to be missed (especially if viewed from beside the fireplace with a cold drink in hand).
The Selous Game Reserve is home to some of the most wild-wildlife left on the African Continent. Bigger than Switzerland and over three times the size of the Serengeti, it is both the largest and the oldest protected area in Africa. Home to the World's largest population of African Wild Dogs (Lycaon pictus) a rare and protected species, Africa's highest concentration of Hippos and more than half of Tanzania's Elephants; the Selous is both vast and untamed. In 1982 the UN decided it was such a remarkable place that they declared it a World Heritage Site, an award that it continues to deserve to this day. One of Africa's great wild places, it is yet to be discovered by many guests to the country and leaves its visitors with one of the most intimate experiences that Africa can offer.
The lodge is situated within wooded bushland, high on the banks of the Rufiji River, right on the border of the Selous Game Reserve.

Safaris and activities available from camp include: Game Drives, Boat Safaris, Walking Safaris, Cultural tours, Fishing and Bird watching.
The Selous is one of the very few game reserves in Africa where you can view game from the water, and after the dust and bumpy roads of a game drive, there's nothing more relaxing that drifting along the river watching the wildlife.
We offer two types of boat safari, direct from camp - short 2-3 hour boat trips along the Rufiji River outside the reserve, and full day boat safaris which, in addition to the Rufiji River, explore the lakes of the Selous. Hippos and crocodiles aplenty!
Game Drives in open-sided 4x4 vehicles are also not to be missed. Leaving camp in the morning for a full day of adventure, the tour is a laid back, casual affair which stops off for a picnic lunch in the shade during the hottest part of the day. Game drives are ideal for tracking down Lion, but a myriad of other species can be seen including Giraffe, Elephant, Impala, Leopard, Buffalo, African Wild Dog, Zebra, Hyena, Wildebeest, Warthog etc.
Walking safaris through the game reserve are also on offer, and the focus here is on the smaller side of the bush which you miss from the car or boat. Learn to read animal tracks, admire the vibrant and prolific birdlife and discover about the habitat that is home to such a remarkable number of species of wildlife.
