From St Lucia in the South to the Mozambique boarder in the North, The Elephant Coast includes The Hluhluwe/iMfolozi Game Reserve to the west, The Ubombo Mountains in the North West and has the warm tropical Indian Ocean as its entire eastern boundary.
This remarkable safari destination offers a variety of land, aquatic and marine environments with both Lake St Lucia and The Hluhluwe/iMfolozi Park being under formal conservation since 1895. In December 1999, under the UNESCO Protocol, the Greater St Lucia Wetlands Park was declared South Africa?s first World Heritage Site and was subsequently renamed the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.
The Elephant Coast can be accessed either via the N2 national road or from Richards Bay Regional Airport. The inland market town of Mtubatuba and the coastal village of St Lucia are the main hubs situated in the southern section of The Elephant Coast.
