The space

Porcupine Hills Guest Farm forms part of the Diepklowe Nature Conservancy, located 16 km from Botrivier along the Van der Stel Pass. In collaboration with Southern Yurts, we have setup a beautiful yurt for our guests to experience.

Nestled on a sloping hill that overlooks the raw beauty of the nature conservancy, the North-facing yurt is positioned for the perfect sunrise and sunset. Walk out onto a deck that has been built out of a 90-year old stone wall, and into your distinctive kitchen with outdoor fireplace. A couple of meters away you can enjoy the privacy and comfort of a hot shower in our beautiful and enclosed bathroom unit. Nothing about this accommodation is ordinary - if you're looking for an original and comfortable stay in breathtaking nature, the yurt will provide it all.

Porcupine Hills Guest Farm has a wide range of activities on the farm premises and in the local region:

The yurt is located next to our Secret Forest, a gentle riverine area scattered with fruit trees that are over a hundred years old. Feel free to have a swing under the ancient Oak, or a stroll through our budding fruit orchard adjacent to the river. Pick a fruit from a historic fig tree over 6 m tall, or a pomegranate for your morning fruit salad.

When you want to be near the water, enjoy a light 5 minute walk to our dam - swim it's length, or enjoy a sundowner on a moving raft in the dam centre. On summer days, the cool shade from the weeping willows can be life-saving.

For guests that would like to explore more of the Conservancy, there are a number of hikes around the farm that give you spectacular views and expose an incredible array of flora unique to the region. Mountain bikers can cycle previous Cape Epic tracks with pre-organised consent from adjacent farm owners.

For bird lovers, Porcupine Hills Guest Farm is a small oasis. Whether it's a rare spotting of our resident Coots on the dam, or a Vereaux Eagle soaring over the rocky cliffs, there will be plenty of feathered reasons to bring your binoculars.

If you're staying a bit longer and would like to discover the area a little more, there are a number of activities for all ages. The nearby highly acclaimed Cape Canopy Tours offers an exhilarating soar by zip line over the Overberg mountains. If it's a day of wine tasting on one of the many world-renowned Cape wine farms that captures your interest, you can find a farm that suits your taste within a 50 km radius. For more exciting activities in the area, from horse riding to lion viewing.

We great guests at our reception (signposted from the main road as you enter the farm). Although detailed information on the farm and yurt will be sent to you via email upon confirmation of booking, we will also run through this with you on arrival. We will provide you with a map of hikes in the area if you wish, and answer any other questions you may have. All of this information, as well as emergency numbers, will be available in your yurt accommodation.

A small town with plenty of character. Absolutely loved how close the wine farms were, and the little stalls on the side of the road had lots to offer. Food at the Botriver Hotel was also great value for money, with super friendly staff!
