If you’re looking for summer fun in the sun come to Otters’ Haunt. We are surrounded by water, forests and mountains in the beautiful Vredefort Dome World Heritage Site. Ideal for family get-togethers and homely holidays, we are near Parys, only 1hr 15min from Johannesburg, on tar all the way. If you’re just arriving or leaving from Johannesburg airport, our place is a convenient port of call. Rustic accommodations include a large guest house which is off the eskom grid, bush camp on Eskom power and chalets on Eskom power, all equipped for self-catering.
In Room Facilities:Established more than 20 years ago, nowhere else near Parys can you find such seclusion and charm. With its pool patio, the house suits families, friends or business associates. It is ideal for small groups wanting to meet and perhaps use our conference facilities over a few days. Other facilities can also be used for larger group bookings, and we can cater meals.
Area Information:The Vredefort Dome World Heritage Site lies at the centre of the world's oldest and largest meteorite impact site. Join a tour from Otters' Haunt with popular science writer Prof Graeme Addison or keen environmentalist Karen Addison, registered tour guides. We do a map briefing, video and impact demo, and go to view sites of scientific and cultural interest. Also, there is a battlefields tour and a township tour. Graeme and Karen are great companions as you drive, walk, or mountain bike the trails. Or paddle on the Vaal, River of the Crater!

To make your stay even more comfortable, we are off-the-Eskom grid. We have installed Solar to power the entire facility. The system is designed to automate power usage and at night the system switches off automatically between 22:00 & 22:30. The system then powers up again before 07:00 every morning.
We request our guests play their part in managing the solar energy and recycling. Please bring battery powered lights for late nights.

The perfect getaway from all the ups and downs of city life
Otters Haunt is a magical place on the banks of the Vaal. Cormorant Cabin is private, comfortable, and clean. Graeme and the team are knowledgeable guides and will arrange white-water rafting. Graeme and Karen are awesome hosts, and we thank them for the awesome stay. We highly recommend Otters Haunt - Cormorant Cabin and we will return for many more stays.
This is an awesome getaway for a weekend or even a longer stay. Lovely Accommodation, very close to the river and is neat and well looked after. We were in the Cormorant cabin, which is secluded. This was a wonderful and adventurous experience. The Whitewater rafting experience was our highlight and Graeme, and his team is knowledgeable guides. We recommend Otters Haunt to anyone who wants to get away and connect with nature. We thank Graeme and Karen for an awesome weekend and sure will return. The Jordaan family!!!!!!!
A magical place on the banks of the Vaal. The river islands are an ecosystem in their own right and are amazing to explore. Cormorant Cabin is perfect, private, comfortable and clean. Fishing on the river is also a great experience. Great to meet Karen, Graeme and the two collies, excellent hosts all. Will be back for sure.
This was a wonderful and adventurous experience. Enjoyed our stay in the bush with my family. The Canoeing experience was our highlight , while my son 's four hour mountain cycling got him extremely tired and enjoyable. Nkosi's Family from Alberton .We will surely recommend to friends and family for a nature connect getaway experience.
Lovely location, very close to the river. We were in Cormorant cabin, which feels secluded. But if there's a large group booked in to the Bush camp chalets, it can get a bit noisy at Cormorant cabin, since you're very close together. Graeme and Karen are knowledgeable guides, and will arrange walking tours and whitewater rafting.
Lovely Place - Arrived in the rain but host was very friendly and very willing to help. Our cabin was awesome, very neat and clean. Place is peaceful and tranquil and you feel as if you are kilometers away from the city. There are a few things that needs a bit of attention, but overall awesome stay.
We enjoyed staying at Otter's Haunt. It was the perfect breakaway and real food for the soul!
