Mankwe Bush Lodge is located on the eastern edge of the Okavango Delta, renowned World Heritage Site in Botswana. The border of the Moremi Game Reserve lies a stone’s throw to the west of Mankwe, while Chobe National Park is slightly north, and Maun is only two hours south, by road.
The lodge is nestled in a prime location in its own 300 000 hectare concession, shared with sister lodge, Tuskers Safari Camp. This is a prestigious territory in the wild wonderland of Botswana, where the lack of fences allows for free-roaming wildlife, resident lions, an abundance of elephants, and incomprehensible room to explore.
Mankwe Bush Lodge is a solar-powered camp, greatly reducing its impact on the surrounding environment. The ten, tented suites are privately located among the mopane trees, and the main area of the lodge, containing lounge, bar, and dining area, is centrally located.
A fireplace is built in the main boma area, creating a place of gathering for guests before and after dinner, while the adjacent lounge is a spacious, shaded place to relax with a book.
Meal times are a convivial and scrumptious affair in the dining tent, after a traditional drum beat calls guests to the table.
There are no fences around the lodge or tented units, making Mankwe a true ‘bush lodge’. Elephants roam freely, as do other animals, and guests are advised not to wander around camp at night.
Please note that Mankwe is unfenced and wild animals do wander through camp at times. Children are to be supervised at all times. Animal feeding is not allowed.
In Room Facilities:
Eight Tented suites are individually erected on raised wooden platforms, which extend onto private decks with a view of the untamed bush.
The tall mopane trees provide mottled shade to every tent, while a canvas canopy roofs the deck and outdoor furniture.
Each room sleeps two people and has an en suite bathroom with a shower, toilet, and simple bathroom vanity complete with complimentary soap, shampoo and lotion.
A drop-down canvas flap can be closed between the bathroom and bedroom to offer privacy, while the windows and front entrance of the tent are shielded with bug-proof mesh screens and canvas flaps.
The Mankwe campsites in the NG43 concession area are ideally situated for the well-equipped 4x4 enthusiast and campers. From the campsites the Moremi Game Reserve and Savuti area of the Chobe National Park can be visited for day trips. The campsites are also in reach of the game rich Khwai River area (about 25 km away) that can be explored without cost for a day.
Activities at the camp (Prior booking required) include morning and afternoon game drives, as well as after-dark spotlight game drives, in our own concession, and into Moremi or Savuti, never forgetting our drives to awesome pans deep into the concession. Guided safari walks can be arranged. For those wanting to relax, we have a very comfortable lounge for one just to stare over the valley. Mankwe accepts all children and must be under the care of their parents at all times.
