The Apple and Rose is a quaint guest-house on the edge of a little Mpumalanga town called Belfast. The town and the house dates from the late 1800's and the guesthouse was lovingly restored to its present state, exuding charm and peace, featuring original Oregon pine floors and some stained glass bay windows as well as an operating well. The town is surrounded by coal mines and farmland as well as plantations of pine and Eucalyptus trees. The area is a fishing haven with many well stocked dams. Being on the edge of the Escarpment between the High and Lowveld, it has a unique climate, with misty mornings in summer and many European trees like oaks planted in lanes, leaving romantic memories of days gone by. The town is situated very well for a stop over between Johannesburg and the Kruger National Park, but also has many gems to discover, not least its people and history.
