WHY BRAAI SAFARIS

Braai Safaris was established as an idea to combine the experience of a Braai and a Safari together to recreate our tradition in the BIG 5 world, inside the famous Kruger National Park.
Braai is a word derived from the Afrikaans language referring to the rustic method of cooking meat on an open fire. In fact it is so important to us that we have a dedicated National Braai Day (Heritage Day) on 24th September, to unite our people.

“ In South Africa it is impossible to truly connect to the wild environment without a Braai and a Safari ”
-Wiánn de Lange

You will get the chance to enjoy this unforgettable full day (duration 9 – 11 hours on a private vehicle) with a highly qualified Fgasa and experienced field guide, in a open safari vehicle to be more in tune and in “touch“ with your senses in this natural habitat.
All our safaris are inside the Kruger National Park which is the biggest Big 5 (Lion ,Leopard, Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo) South Africa conservation area.

Your morning will start with a early departure (times subject to change depending on seasons) from Hoedspruit. Pick up and drop off from your Lodge if in Hoedspruit centre.
Although Hoedspruit is surrounded by the Kruger, the closest entrance to the park is only about an hours drive away from the centre of the town.
Your safari experience will start upon entering the park, where you will be free to ask your guide any questions about the wild surroundings.
A light breakfast will be included, as well as a braai lunch with 2 types of meat and local side dishes (vegetarian on request), which will be at a selected authorised area. Lunch will be at about mid day, when animals are less active and seeking shade, so more difficult to spot them.
Here you will find the best way to feel and understand true South Africa tradition, with good food in a secure wild environment.
After your lunch you will continue your safari, exiting the park before gate closing time and travelling back to Hoedspruit where you will be dropped off at your pick-up point.

USEFUL INFORMATION:
During the rainy season which is mainly in the warmer time of the year (November – March), your safari vehicle is fitted with a waterproof roof and adjustable side protection for rain, to ensure a ongoing safari even in bad weather conditions, Ponchos will be provided if necessary for the duration of the safari, but it’s still advised to bring along a hat, jacket (waterproof) and sunscreen as the summer temperatures can be high.
Colder conditions can be expected from May to August and it’s advised to dress warmer as temperatures can get cold especially in the early morning and late afternoon. We will provide warm and soft blankets to ensure you stay comfortable during your safari.
Remember to bring your camera and binoculars.
We will provide water for all the duration of the safari.

Game meat on request at an additional price. Depending on availability
Please Note: In case of bad weather lunch will be cooked on gas.

Braai Safaris is a small and intimate private company, we provides a typical and true wildlife experience, not only give our guests a unique experience but also share our passion for this awesome wild environment.
We strongly believe and focus on quality and not quantity. This way we exceed our guest expectation.
